.50 Beowulf?

The Beowulf looks like great fun. I looked at them pretty hard about a year ago, but I decided to go with a 45-70 instead.

I've used my Beowulf for coyote to pigs and it works a treat, it's essentially a 45-70 that fits in the AR. Mine shoots both the 400 gr. FP and 325 gr. HP's very well. This is the setup for pig hunting at night, 1.5-4.5 scope and a 70 lumen light, it's a DPMS lower with the Alexander Arms Entry top end.

This was the first 100 yard group ever shot from it with 400 FP's.

This is a 3 shot group with 325 gr. HP's. I stopped at 3 because I didn't want to ruin the group.:)

There's a bunch of big bore rounds available for the AR, and even more when you go to the AR-10. .50 beowulf is just one of them. I was looking at it for a bit, then I found out about the others, and now I'm gonna have to do a lot more research before buying.

Big thing, Beowulf is in a ergonomic, semi action, .45-70 is in a lever gun. Apples and oranges, but you have to decide what kind of fruit you want. Me, I was both.:)

The Beowulf is a great big bore AR. I currently own
my second rifle. My understanding is that the round
and rifle was developed for the U.S. Coast Guard by
Alexander Arms at the Radford Gov. Arsenal. The
Guard needed a powerful, short range entry rifle that
would pierce steel doors and hulls when boarding
enemy or drug ships. The rifle lives up to those
expectations. I have punctured 1/4" steel plate
at 25 yards with the 334 gr. round. Yes, there are
armor piercing rounds out there, but the .50 Beowulf
was a jacketed hollow point.

I have had the pleasure of talking to Mr. Alexander on a few occasions while he test fired some of his Beowulf’s and/or we just shot for fun.
He is a top notch guy.
I like his rifles as well. :D

Ammo is expensive but a friend who reloads the round tells me that it runs about .29 cents per. I just got my Beowulf upper a couple days ago and the ammo is on the way :)
