I am currently going through the application process. I have a few ahem "bumps" with the law. (nothin major) In their automated system, one of the options is press whatever # to inquire if a particular individual has a CHL.

I am new to the carry thing. There is something about this that doesn't sit well with me.

The only valid reason I can see is: A purchaser has an old but valid CHL that is ratty looking. The dealer wants to confirm it is not lost/stolen etc. To bypass possible wait period.

Maybe someone here can shed some light on this for me.
Maybe a legal way to omit my name from it.

p.s. one fax away from approval

Whether or not a person has a CHL here in TX is public record, but unlike some other states the information is only available if it is requested on that person by name. I thought there was a bill this year that would change it to being private, but I may just be imagining things.

Hb 991

HB 991 passed and was effective in May. :D

That information is now private. Only a "crimal justice agency" can obtain it.

Thanks, I knew I wasn't going crazy....well not totally anyway :scrutiny:
