I haven't looked up the actual date yet this year, but the Ohio squirrel season opens in August. Time to dust off the ol' Marlin and take some ammo to the range. I should do this year round, but I tend to shoot handguns more in the "off" season. My regimen for whacking Rocky:
Ten rounds each of prone, sitting, kneeling, offhand and offhand looped up in a sling. I give myself a 1" bull (about the size of a squirrel noggin) at 50 yards.
It's no fun to shoot only 50 rounds, so I usually throw in variations of slung/unslung for the first three positions, too.
I seem to spend my vacation time and more money on deer hunting, but most of my weekends squirrel hunting. It is by far my favorite fall (late summer?)activity.
