which .40 has the least recoil?

Any gun with a little more weight should be better. I have a Colt Z40 (CZ-40B) that is really mild on recoil compared to some other 40's I've fired. I believe part of that has to do with the 1911 grip angle - but that's just my opinion.

If you can rent or borrow a Springfield XD...do it before you make your purchase.

Try the Beretta PX4. I'd of never thought it would be such a soft shooter, but the action really soaks up recoil. It is a *****cat of a .40.

I just bought a Taurus 24/7 PRO in a .40 and its recoil isn't bad at all but I have never shot any other .40s to compare it to.

Sig P229 doesn't have much recoil for the .40 cartridge, IMO. Quite easy to control. To me, the Glock and the PX4 had a lot of flip and I couldn't control it as easily as I could the Sig. But the Sig is also a heavier gun, which made it much easier.

HK USP's have a recoil reducing shock absorber in the guide rod. may want to try that

Whats wrong with your Glock 23? I think its a great firearm and its my wife's favorite to shoot (shes 5'2" and weighs 103lbs). I cant keep her away from it at the range as its all she will shoot ... so if we got a divorce I know she'd take it! HAHA ok back to the subject.

But I guess if you really want something easier to handle then maybe look at getting one that is heavier? Sigs or H&Ks are a little heavier and have models with recoil reducers and they do not all come with a polymer frame which will give you that little bump to the bottom reciever wieght. So that might be the route you take.

Also if you really like the Glock but maybe not the .40 try the .45. You will find that the .45 in a medium sized frame will be very easy to control. The .45 has more of a sluggish push than a firm kick like the .40. Of course you will lose some power going to a .45 but you might find it better in the Glock for what you are doing. Good luck!

Really? I thought the PX4 .40 felt like a 9mm. I didn't have any muzzle flip to speak of.

I think all of the H&K's that are currently in production have a recoil reduction system, not just the USP's. The USP, USPc, and P2000 would all be good candidates.

The PX4 shoots very nicely in .40. My wife shot it today next to her 9mm (she's a novice with a gun) and not only loved it but shot it really well. I can't imagine anyone giving it a bad review for recoil....the recoil is lighter than my 9mm's with +p ammo in them.

People perceive recoil differently I'm sure...but after just two range visits the PX4 has become my favorite to shoot (it's currently my only .40) all my other guns are either 9mm or .45. I'm very lucky to have guns that are reliable and great to shoot......if they weren't I'd sell em (and have sold many).

And learn to use your arms as shock absorbers, not locked as solid rods, or the snappy recoil from a .40 will punish you over time especially in the wrists and elbows!

I have a Sig P229 and a Beretta 96 that are very easy to shoot with hardly any felt recoil at all. My Sig P239 jumps a little more than the other two, but its no problem either. Try to rent some different ones before you buy one. Good luck.

Yeah, this more along the lines of my experience with the PX4. It felt like a 9mm to me, I can't figure out how anyone got muzzle flip out of it... I guess a different grip or really small hands maybe.

I have read many reviews that say the M&P series have less recoil. I do for a fact that my M&P .40c has less felt recoil than the G27 I traded in for it. It is an enjoyable gun to shoot and feels great in your hand.

I shot a XD40, ported, that was very easy shooting. No more recoil than my 45 target loads that I was shooting that day

M&P, both compact and full size, are tame in .40 cal. The BHP is comfortable as well, but it pales beside it's older brother in 9mm. I imagine the CZ75 would feel similar.
