The IL governor has called a special overtime session that focuses on banning mags that hold more than 10 rounds. This is a crazy, political stunt but we worry that it could get done.

Please vote in this online poll (copy and paste into your browser). Thanks!

I am torn between my understanding of the 10th Amendment, and WAND's invitation for the world to participate.

It's the internet, and it doesn't make a difference, so I'll vote: but what happens in Illinois, barring SCOTUS rulings to the contrary, is Illinois' business, and inviting people out of state to weigh in on this is dangerous. It means that when Illinois comes telling us what to do, we may be expected to listen.

We already have a problem with New York telling us what to do, you see.

Also very interesting: it never displays results. I've voted "no" about fifteen times now. I wonder if they're actually doing anything with this.

Understand how this works, folks. Blagojevich is ten days into "overtime" on the budget, which ran out on June 30th. Rather than try to pass a new budget, he has stalled at every turn and blamed the legislative leaders of the House and Senate--both of whom are Democrats just like him, but they all despise each other.

At this point, he's throwing out "Special Sessions" and grandstanding. The reason he chose gun control for this one is that it has the two vital traits he needs:

1. It's "his" issue and he can grandstand on it and maybe manage to look good to his constituency in Chicago, and

2. It's not going to pass, which gives him a longer diversion and, he hopes, will lead to infighting in the legislative bodies so they'll be a little less united by their universal hatred of him.

Ideologues are often stupid, and stupid is as stupid does.

The Gov cannot get his ban any other way, which is further indictment that it neither has support nor is good public policy. You flunk, gov.

Something else non-residents of IL might not know is that while we have no budget and the governor is trying distract our legislators from the issue they should be focused on he has chosen to not live in the executive mansion in springfield but to take plane trips to and from his home in chicago to the capitol at the tax payers expense. He's known for only spending a few hours at the capitol when he does and the trips are costing us $5800 each. As of June 26th the estimated cost of his joyrides was $81,600. Its like taking a limo to your bankruptcy hearing and sadly the people of illinois will vote for him until he is behind bars.

And don't forget the $40,000+ per day it costs to keep the Legislature in sesssion.

And for those of you who urged us to vote for Democrats the last election. We have a straight Democrat government. Every Statewide office is a (D), and they have majorities in both the House and Senate. Yet, we have no budget, no electric rate Re/Deregulation/reform, and the big bugaboo in Chicago, no Public Transportion (RTA/CTA) Funding, so all the trains and buses are going to stop running. (GOOD !!!!) And I can't think of a single peice of legislation that passed this session.

Maybe Mike Madigan should teach Blago a lesson and pass concealed carry with a veto proof margin while he's up in Chicago refueling the State Gulfstream?

That would teach the boy a lesson.

OK, I know, I've had too much Crown Royal and spent too much time out in the sun.

I'll just go lie down for a while and wait for Blago's next press event announcement tomorrow, calling for a "Special Session" to ban the Terrorist Threat from the evil .50 Cal, for the children of Chicago.

Ahhh, but dreams are such nice things, aren't they?

Did everyone notice that he couldn't even get the original gun control legislator sponsors to join him. All he could muster for his big event was some weenie local Brady spokesperson. He also refused to take questions from the press on anything but the gun "clip" ban.

Jeez, our last Governor is a convicted felon and we can't even get his fat butt in the slammer 7 months after he was sentenced! I wish Illinois had a recall provision.

I think 4 out of our last 6 governors have gone up the river. We should just change the state motto from "Land of Lincoln", to; "Illinois - Will the defendant please rise and face the jury".

He also refused to take questions from the press on anything but the gun "clip" ban.

That's because they all want to ask him about the subpeonas that Patrick Fitzgerald (of Scooter Libby fame) has issued to his office and his campaign.

Even his own Attorney General, Lisa Madigan (Daughter of the Speaker of the House, with whom our governor is currently having a spat over the budget, et al.) has told him that he needs to release the details of the subpeonas, but Blago refuses and stays mum.

Hence we have no budget and a Governor who can only play whack-a-mole with gunowners rather then actually, umm, you know, govern.....
