Howdy, folks. I'm not good at searching. I tried for about 10 min and didn't get a hit for what I'm looking for (what a sad state of affiars when you have to search a while before every post).

I'm curious as to what THR uses for HD and why you chose that weapon. I'm also curious as to what general type of housing you live in (middle of rural, suburban/urban house, apartment).

I keep a 20 gage old-arsed Mossberg bolt action and a 9mm Ruger P89 and I live in an apartment type area.

It's your turn

I have a few to choose from.

However, what I keep in easy reach and have used to check on things in the past is my Vector AK-47 underfolder and/or a Glock 19.

I live in a rural area, house, no close neighbors.

My Yugo SKS. I live in the suburbs, walls in my home are mostly plaster with some brick. I bought the SKS mostly as a "fun gun" but it's the best HD gun I have, seeing as how it's either that, or a scoped 10/22 or a Mosin.

Aside from possible overpenetration issues, I think it's a fine HD gun. Goes bang every time, quick to load with stripper clips, and plenty of power to get the job done.

I've always heard if your gonna do it do it right the first time...12 GA with #4 3" I live in a very urban area but the houses are brick and plaster, confident 4 shot won"t go through 5 walls to hurt a NCB. The .357 is there too, but I've always thought of a shotgun as a "definite instant answer." Plus the action sound of a shotty is much more noticeable than that of a hammer pull on a wheelgun

my carry gun on the nightstand (G26). Nearby is my house 12 gauge, an 18" 870 loaded with buckshot.

In the basement in the gun safe, I keep one of my AR's with a loaded mag ready to go if things get real ugly.

S&W 325 w/CT laser. 6 in the wheel 2 full moon reloads should smooth out the bumps. Hollow points because I live in an apt. complex. (I want the slugs to stay local.)

Bumps in the night???? Don't they make a cream for that?

For me, multiple .45's scattered throughout the house and a newly-acquired Benelli M4 Joint Services Combat Shotgun, lighted and lasered.

A big house on a VERY rural 2-acre lot.

Mossberg 500A, 18" barrel with 00 buck and some slugs on the side in case I get burgled/attacked by a really mean deer.

If that isn't enough (hey, it might be the zombie hordes!), I've got a modified Yugo SKS with a small pile of 20rd Tapco mags and many stripper clips.

I keep my trusty Mossberg 500 under my bed, loaded with #4.
In the nightstand goes the Springfield XD 5" Tactical in .45 acp with a laser and night sights, loaded with MageSafe 65-gr hp.

I live in an apartment complex with fairly thin walls, so over-penetration is a huge concern. If I were to live in an isolated rural area in a house of my own, I would sleep with the AK at the ready. :) But it's in the attic loaded, just in case the SHTF.

Plain Jane Remington 870 with 2.75" 00 Buck. Marlin 336 and Mosin are standing by for jobs that require a rifle. I live in a rural area without any nearby houses.

I live in an apartment, and my basic HD gun is a Sig P226 in 9mm. I originally bought it as a duty weapon, when I was planning to do armed security work. It's too big to carry concealed, though, so it stays by my bed.

I also have a Winchester 1300 Defender pump, which I keep with a tube full of buckshot.

My go-to gun is the Sig. It's easier to use in an apartment, and I can grab it quickly without sitting up in bed and making the bed springs creak. If the Sig ain't enough, I grab the shotgun. If the noise that wakes me up is the sound of my door frame splintering... I grab the shotgun.

That's my defense plan in a nutshell... Use Enough Gun.

I got a WASR-10 AK 7.62mm with two 30rders taped side by side. Looks like something straight out of the 3rd world! :D

If I had a choice, it would be this in full auto...

S&W Model 5926

I figure if I get woken up in the middle of the night, I better have as many rounds as possible if I'm going to have to use that thing while half asleep.

Plus the added benifit of I'm fairly positive I could pack that thing with mud and it would still fire every single time.

For sprains and bruises I use Bio-Freeze. :D

For two legged nosies I have a couple of 12ga shotguns, with 00 buck,to quite the bumps.

One H&R with a camp stock and one Mossberg pump. ;)

1 German shepherd on the floor next to bed.
1 Boxer / Mastiff mix in the other side of the bed.
bumps in the night get detected rather well.

5" Kimber 1911 in the night stand and if the dogs do their job right I have time to get to the Rem 870 short barreled 12ga with 00 in the closet.

corn country living, closest neighbor is 1/4mile off and crackheads are stealing ammonia tanks.

Suburbs, no kids in the house. Monitored alarm system, 100 lb. German Shepherd, 40 lb. psychotic mutt, Glock 22 and light in my bedside table, S&W M&P .40 and light in my wife's bedside table. A fair number of other tools in the safe. I sleep fairly well ;)

Glock 19 with 17 rounds and Glock Light, then if necessary, my CAR15 w/tactical light and 30 rounds XM193. If that doesn't work, .........

What size bump? Big bump,as in crash bump?

This.

Little bump, as in maybe something fell over/cat running/could be the window being pried open.

One of these.

Don't forget the bump alert, who will let me know if it's a cat or cat burglar.

And if all else fails, I throw this one at 'em.
