Newer Henry AR7s any good?

I am thinking of getting a new Henry US survivor AR7, are the new ones any good? Anyone own one? What do you think?

I'd like a light defensive packable rifle, was originally thinking of getting a marlin 70 PSS or Ruger 10/22 but both guns are out of my budget unfortunatly. ( Ok really would like the the Keltech SU16 but thats way out )

years back i bought a used henry ar7 and while I liked the gun, it jammed more than it shot so I traded it off with cash for a buckmark camper, great little 22 handgun plinker

It had a funny feel to it, but I could get used to that, and I liked the compact light design. I see that they now have scope rails, and a lifetime warranty.

I am wondering if Henry has finally got the ar7 right?
 
much better than all the older ones, though it is the Armalites, that have the collector value, these proly never will, and yes they work pretty good, and yes they are funny feeling to shoot. but they do what they are supposed to, and they do break down into a nice small package. if you are not worried at all about whether they float, i would get a marlin Papoose , all over the henry.
 
A Marlin Paposse would indeed be a much better option, a Browning semi auto with the tube mag in the stock would also be a good option. If it has to float when packed, get a floating case.

The cheapest I've seen them is $190 at Gander Mountain. They appear to be very cheaply made. Just buy a .22 caliber pistol. My $.02.
 
I bought a new one a month or two ago and it is pretty unreliable. I have seen FTF, FTE, doubling and pretty bad vertical stringing. They seem to be nothing but a novelty. I would not recommend that you waste your money on one.

A basic 10/22 should only be about $40 more and it should last you forever. Look for a used one as well.

And don't waste your money on a Kel-Tech SU-16 either. :neener:

I don't know why you would say that. SU16 is far more reliable than any 10/22 I've been around and more accurate than any Ruger semi auto (10/22 or Mini).

However, people have figured out that they are a pretty good product and the prices seem to be rising too much for my taste.
 
EC was that with a variety of Ammo that it gave you all those fits and did you call Henry and what did they say?

( already have a couple .22 pistols, and a "Basic" 10/22 is actually cheaper than a henry but I want something that can fit in a daypack and that would mean a compact 10/22 with a folding stock, which is considerably more expensive )
 
that is one more thing, you must try out a huge variety of ammo , with the survival type rifles, youwill find one that works flawlessly, all others will be crap.
 
I actually have all three "packable" rifles the OP mentioned. In order of reliability after shooting thousands of rounds thru each.

1) Marlin 70 PSS
2) Kel-Tec Su-16CA
3) Henry AR-7

I've never owned any other manufacturer's AR-7. Other than being able to carry three mags in the stock, I don't see a difference between the Henry and the older ones. I do expect mine to jam at least once every three mags.:(
 
i like mine, but maybe more out of nostalgia than anything. mine is pretty dependable as well. not super accurate, but way more so then most .22 pistols if you had to use it for emergency hunting/defensive situation. plenty of finishes to choose from now as well.
