What would you pay for a used Cz P-01? (Or EAA Witness?)

I'm very tempted by a Cz P-01; every Cz I've handled (a handful, not hundreds) has felt great in the hand -- even the much maligned 100B . I have (from summer odd jobs) a bit over $400, and wondering if anyone has purchased a used P-01, and if Yes, how much I should hope to get away with paying for one. I know it's a fairly new gun, so it's not like the seemingly endless supply of used S&W revolvers or P38s. In this case, I'm looking for anecdotes to use as a substitute for data :)

Yup, I know that the P-01 is a variant of the Cz-75, and that there are many of those floating around used at reasonable prices. And while I would certainly not turn down a Cz-75 if it was offered at an unbeatable enough price, the styling of the P-01 appeals to me. Among other things, I'm one of those people who likes light rails on pistols, and that bevel where the slide meets the triggerguard I think is an aesthetic triumph. Depending on what bargains I find, perhaps I really will end up putting the P-01 off for a while, and subbing in some other gun (such as the 75) this time around.

Another option high on my list, for its reputed bargain status and flexibility is a gently used EAA Witness; one of those with the option of later adding barrels for .357 Sig and 9mm seems like (and please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm relying on Intarweb reputations mostly, and they're not always perfectly objective) a fantastic deal. My understanding is that EAA has awful customer service, but the guns are good enough that percentagewise it still works out in the buyer's favor.

Do Cz Kadet .22 conversion slidesets fit the EAAs? Do the EAA caliber conversions work with any models of Cz?

If this train of thought triggers any suggestions (it seems like the Cz line has inspired many variants, offshoots, cousins, etc, which I'm learning about in little spurts), I'd appreciate hearing them!

The problem with discovering how fun it is to own and shoot guns is that there are infinitely branching wishlists self-assembling all over my brain ;) SInce I have nothing in the 1911 family, nothing in the Cz family, and nothing in the AR family (all of which I'd like to learn and shoot), not to mention all kinds of other gaps, I might end up revising the "current top of the list" before anything gets the green light anyhow. Those RIA 1911s are sure tempting!

But for now, I'm seeking Cz thoughts instead :)

I just purchased a cz p01

It was used but, in really really good condition I mean I couldn't find any wear on it.... it looked new. I payed $340 and I couldn't be happier

rich -- Thanks! Wow, that gives me something to shoot for -- you got a great price, esp. on a like-new gun. If I can match that deal, I could put some money into the fund for building my castle ;)

Did you buy from a private seller, from an auction site, or from a shop, and from region of the country?

does the one you watn have the built in laser grips or no? because you should be able to get one without the laser grips, for between 400 and 475 new, and over 5 for the laser grips.

I got a really good deal on an excellent used P01 from a private seller for $300.

Expect to pay up to $350-400 for one but if you keep your eyes open you can get low $300s.

EAA Witness

Plain Jain Witnesses <$300. In fact, I've never paid more than $280 for one, including new ones.
What I've paid
$280 OTD for a 10mm Wonder Finish
$250 OTD for a Black 10mm
$269 for a NIB 10mm Black
$269 for a NIB 38 SA Black

I see them regularly for around $250.

EAA's customer service is atrocious. The guns are usually decent, just don't expect any help from EAA if you have a problem.

I live in CT and I bought it from a gun store

I wouldn't buy a EAA product at any price unless I could run AT LEAST 100 rounds through it first.
If it worked flawlessly and impressed me, I would consider it a pistol whose maker had gone out of business.
Their customer service, as mentioned earlier is the worst you will ever hear about, and it's worse than normally would be believed.
CZ makes fine guns, and I would be happy to pay $300 for a used P01, but I wouldn't even THINK ABOUT a new EAA product.
Yes, I have first hand dealings with them, and YES, they are that bad.
Buy a CZ, trust me.

No, the Kadet Its don't fit EAA products.

Hardly anything between CZ and EAA guns are interchangeable (at least without modification.) Mags and recoil springs from an EAA will work in a CZ, but the recoil springs from a CZ won't work in an EAA [the CZ is a smaller diameter.] Different pin sizes, subtle differences in design; and the newer the guns the greater the differences.

I had several EAA Witness pistols before I moved to the real thing. Honestly, I had no issues with any of them, both full size or compact, 9mm or 40, good solid guns. The CZs are just better, IMHO.
Have you looked over at czforum.com to see if anyone there has a PO1 for sale?
BTW, mine is NOT for sale...ever.

I got a P01 about a month ago. Some dude bought it--took it home and his wife wouldn't let him keep it. He brought it back to the GS and put it on consignment. Never even shot it . Still had the factory goo on it. I paid $399.
I've put 400 rds thru it of factory ammo ,my reloads, and some Win silver tip HP's with zero problems or malfunctions. The gun shoots and points great and I am really happy with it.:D

For the P-01 I think 340-360 would be a good target price when shopping.

EAA Witness I would be hard put to take one for free, truly the worst customer service I have ever encountered.

I LOVE the information you get on this forum about future purchases. Keep up the good work . It is appreciated. I would like to find a decent buy on a cz 75B.

I'd pick the new or used P-01 with a higher price than than the Witness.

My 10mm has been very good to me, but I just might be lucky in that regard.
Others have had poor performance from both gun and importer.

Basically, if they didn't offer a 10mm, I'd not own a Witness.

Most any CZ will give you a reliable pistol from round one, new or used.

The P-01 is selling so well this spring and summer because it is so fantasic, in all areas. Price still lower priced than comparable pistols ( Glocks and SIG have went way up) Superb ergonomics..
( I think the 75B fits even better, but most people rave about the P-01)
and the fact that the gun has been in Police and NATO (ammo approval) testing for a few years now, and is a very proven pistol in the eyes of the CZ community.

Stop by the CZ-ZONE and have a look at the CZ rifles and pistols there.

I'd like to see you get into some kind of CZ, but that is my goal with everyone
who is old or new to shooting:)

Well

If you like CZ clones there are actually two other options.

Armalite is importing a Turkish clone that appears to be a quite decent pistol. The price is a touch high in comparison to CZ/EAA. The jury is still out if it is worth the extra $$. Interestingly enough it appears that the some of the actual Turkish pistols are also being imported. That is, the same manufacturer of the Armalite pistols, just not rebadged/revamped. Sarsilmaz is it?

There are Sphinx pistols as well. They are $$$$$$. Apparently pretty nice though.

EDIT: Oh yeah, there's also the Baby Eagle. It is really another Tanfoglio derived pistol. Usually a bit better executed than the Witness. If you like the ergonomics of a CZ, you'll like the BE.

Boy I'm having a hard time staying on the "high" road here. All this complaining about EAA and less than $300 for ANY of the Witness pistols?? Come ON folks get real. I just bought a pitted finish witness compact all steel 10mm on auction arms and was glad to get it for $275. This will be my third Witness gun and my fellow IPSC shooters in the local club have at least six or seven of them also and gee whiz, none of us complain about EAA service. What? You worry about after sale warranty work? Why? Of the ten or twelve Witness pistols used weekly at our club not one of them has ever needed anything but a bit of fluff and buff and a spring change every so often. When I call EAA for something like new springs or extra magazines they are always helpful, have me on their customer database, ship overnight at no charge and things like barrels to change calibers are cheaper than any of the aftermarket cheapies and come with a lifetime warranty. I've heard people gripe about the service from nearly every manufacturer from A to Z but find that if I call with some patience and understanding for the poor person on the other end of the phone, I invariably am treated well and wind up satisfied.

To the OP: make sure you can try out the trigger on a CZ first before you decide. They're great, ergonomic, cheap pistols, but their out of the box triggers are amongst the worst out there.

I got mine used for $375. It came with a spring pack (I use the reduced power trigger spring) and 2 mags. I've added a stainless guide rod and grips from Angus at ghostholster.com. It's my most accurate 9mm.

TX...Angus does make great grips. I was concerned that the grips wouldn't be as ergonomic as the stock ones but I can't detect any difference in them. Angus is A+ in my book.

May I ask where you get these fantastic deals at?

I paid $275 for my witness .45acp
It eats any and all ammo I feed it.
when I called their service department and asked for diff. caliber barrels
and mags, I got FIRST rate attention and answers.
I now own 3 witnesses.

All the time

South Western Virginia. There's an older 9mm Fullsize sitting at my friendly neighborhood toy store with a price of $250 on it. Tempting, but I have too many 9mms already. $250 out the door would probably take it home.

Heck, when a gun sells for $320-$360 NIB, what would you expect the used price to be?

I have found in general that Witnesses tend to have better triggers out of the box then CZs.
