I have been thinking about buying the new .308mx and had some questions about it:
(1) Will it shoot the regular .308 win. if u just load 1 in the chamber?
(2) Do they already make dies for it?
(3) I would just like to hear some comments on the gun (good or bad) before I spend my money on it.

I have one and love it.
(1) NO! Different cartridge all together.
(2) Yes! Hornady makes a set.
(3) With the LeveRevolution ammo they are awesome. 2600fps and sub MOA groups at 100yds.
So far, I've handloaded a few different spitzer bullets, but haven't matched the Hornady stuff. I have had the best success loading the Sierra 150gr FP bullet. I've gotten great accuracy and ave 2550fps so far. I haven't tried to push it any higher yet. However, I intend to because I am getting no pressure signs whatsoever.
There are several of us Marlin nuts over at MarlinOwners who have been tinkering with these 308MX's for quite a while. We even have a sub-forum dedicated to it.
If you like Marlin lever guns, you are going LOVE this baby. It is awesome.

I'll say again about MarlinOwnersForum: I'm a participant there, also. Have learned tons about Marlins there (not just the 336). Great folks, very helpful and fun. Glad to see there's overlap in membership.

I agree with the advice you're getting on your original thread.
If you've checked it out and it feels and looks good (you said no barrel damage; is the action fairly solid?), and if you like the gun (probably most important after condition), then seems fairly reasonable to me. (I've never seen a saddle ring on a 336; could be of value, maybe not. Just don't know, but it is at least interesting.
Like some in the other thread advised, I'd have them take the scope off. Offer them $25 less w/o the scope (can't hurt to try and you don't want it anyway).
In any case, please keep us posted on your decision.

+1 on what Nem said. It looks good from the pictures you posted. If the bore is clean and it can easily be head spaced to confirm it is safe to shoot, Snap It Up!!
PS ask them if you can return it if they can't head space it for you.

You put gauge into the chamber and close the bolt. It is a simple pass fail test to see if the specified round will chamber and fire safely.
Go No Go gauges that test how the bolt seals to the chamber.

So I got our and did a little papyrucide on Saturday. Nothing to brag about (read I won't post pics of my targets for your amusement) but my 336 is still the old trusty it has always been.

Got the latest Gun Tests in the mail.
They rated the Marlin 308MX higher than the Browning BLR in .308 Win. They said it was more accurate, the wood was a good deal prettier, and they preferred the stock finish.
(Interestingly, they thought the crossbolt safety was a useful tool for dropping the hammer to half-cock safely. That's one thing I think about it, too. However, I have also experienced the ugly "bing" instead of a shot, because the safety was on.)
As much as I like Marlin lever guns, I'll have to say I was surprised. As others have said, Marlin, unlike many others, makes their rifles as well as ever.

Even though I have modified my 336A I still have my origional stock just in case I want to go "classic" again.
I M H O and I think others would agree that the stock 336 is great right out the box.
I do have to admit it is ALOT of fun to customize it too.

If the number of views that the thread has received is any indication - 30,595 - then I don't think it'll die out soon. Like the rifle it's focused on, it'll probably be around for a while.
Fortunately, threads never die unless they're locked, and as long as we don't start throwing mud around the club house (NO political discussions in the club house!
), I doubt that'll happen here. Even if it goes quiet for a while (few days or even weeks), it can be revived.
(I think threads like this follow the ebbs and flows of human activity. Activity patterns change with season, and especially around major holidays like the one coming up.)
Sorry I'm slacking in here. I'm so busy at work with two major projects at work, and a third about to kick in. I'm likely to be more scarce in the clubhouse during Sept and early Oct, though it's always a pleasure to take a break and come in for some good reading about one of my favorite rifles.
I haven't even had time to try out my new front site that XS sent out. It's mounted, but I have had no time to get out to my range (which is not close).
There's still a few summary essays I hope to write this winter about this rifle.

Are you sure you want that much magnification for a lever gun? I mean, you should of course do what you want but have you considered a low-powered scope with smaller bell diameter? Or perhaps a fixed power? There are nice lower powered scopes available that are lighter in weight and offer plenty of magnification for typical lever gun ranges. Just food for thought...
Neatest scope setup for a lever gun I've handled wasn't on a lever gun. It was a Ruger Frontier with the 2.5X IER FXII Leupold.
If I scope a centerfire lever gun, I think that's what I'll put on it. It's hard to describe how nice it is unless you look through it. Feels like you're using irons, but it works like a scope. Quick, points by feel, with just the perfect amount of magnification.
