I just picked up a Kimber sporterized swede in 6.5 x 55. Anybody know very much about them? Web search doesn't turn up to much info about them.

Anyone have any experience with them?

I haven`t handled one but as I remember hearing they are simply a M96 Mauser with the barrel trimmed, drilled and tapped action, and bolt handle turned down. Kimber replaced the stock and bedded them.

Should be a fairly good shooter as the old M96 was one of the more accurate military rifles but it isn`t a civilian sporter by any means.

Nice.

Kimber did the conversions in the mid to late 1990's. I recall seeing them advertised in the back of the annual gun publications then. Other companies also did/sold Swedish Mauser sporterizations as well including Samco (positive) and Century (pretty sure on the latter). In a '97 issue of Gunlist, there was even an ad for a Youth sized package (rifle, plastic hard case, etc...) Swedish Mauser sporter from Samco.

I almost grabbed one off of AuctionArms last year. From what I understand, they are a great rifle for the money. Awesome caliber, regardless.
