Wow, just got back from the range. I shot 150 rounds through my new model 31. I was the guy that had the rusty M&P. I will say the 357 sig has a lot more recoil than the 40 s&w, and is a lot louder also. The first round turned everyones head. Than after shooting that I shot 100 through the M&P and the 40 felt like a 9mm. I am going to buy a 40 barrel for my 31, but for self-denfense I won't carry anything but a 357 sig now.

Not to rain on the parade, but my best friend carried a Glock 33 for several months. He eventually sold it because even ball ammo was pretty pricey and the selection was very poor, esp carry loads. And this was in a good sized city, not a rural town.

If you have a good source for .357 SIG you will probably content. Just throwing that into the hopper.

Phantom Warrior, You are correct, ammo is expensive. That is why I am ordering a 40 barrel to shot, and carring 357 sig for protection. After shooting the sig I think it hands down out powers the 40. And if law enforcement keep switching to it the price will start to drop.

pa game commission just switched to the 357 sig in the glock 31 flavor.

Rokman, thanks I have calmed down now having two guns. But I won't carry the m&p after all i went through. It will be home protection.

I love my G31. It is my first Glock and it always turns a head or two at the range when I start shooting.

I have found that dedicated 357 mags often go for a few dollars more than their 40 cal counterparts, so it often pays to double check if there is a price difference. I have bought a small handful of the 40 mags and they work just fine. ( I know some people reading this are saying "duh, they are the same mags" but, if it helps saves someone some money I will say it again.)

You should definitely post again after you get the forty barrel. It is on my to buy list and I am interested in knowing how it works out.

Let's go over this well trodden ground again.... the 357 sig is a 21st century caliber. The best way to find ammo for it is to use a 21st century method - the Internet!!!! I have heard good things about Precision Cartridge although I have not personally tried any ( Yet )
Lawman, American Eagle, Fiocchi, Winchester are a little pricier but all good stuff.....

By the way, I really really like my G31. I have used it to shoot GSSF matchs and one IDPA match. Never ceases to amaze me how consistantly accurate it is.....

You, sir are a gun geek, and I mean that in the most complimentary way.

Thanks for your story and your pictures. There is nothing like hearing about a man and his gun. Many happy endings.

I shoot GA Arms through mine. It's like 12.00/50 for FMJ. Never had an issue.

The G31's my next purchase and I expect it to be a nice companion to my G33. While 357SIG ammo is hard to find and expensive locally, I can purchase it online in bulk for just a bit more than 40S&W and considerably cheaper than 45ACP.

In fact, I just found a source for factory new 357SIG for just under 20 cents per round shipped to my door if I buy a minimum of 500 rounds. How's that for too expensive? :p

Thank You! I take it in a complimentary way!! Now, if only Guns & Ammo would take me onboard.....:)

Yes, got a Glock 31 here too. I love the system and the caliber, it’s power, accuracy and reliability.
The way I see it, It simply does not get any better than 15+1 rounds of 357 SIG. Worth every single penny, besides, how much is your life worth to you? You can practice with cheaper FMJ ammo or .40 all you want.
“He eventually sold it because even ball ammo was pretty pricey and the selection was very poor, esp carry loads. And this was in a good sized city, not a rural town.”
There’s more than enough to choose from, CorBon, Gold Dot, Federal, Hornady and Double Tap, just to name a few.
Besides, the .40 barrel solves the practice issue nicely.

FerFAL

FerFAL, the 40 s&w / 357 sig combo is IMO the best caliber out there. You can get a 200 grain bullet from double tap for trail gun, or switch to the 125 grain 357 sig for perfect self defense. Plus 40 s&w are really getting cheap for range use.

tank mechanic, I will post as soon as it gets here and I test it out. I am ordering a Lone Wolf from glockparts.com for $99. I have heard good things about it and it does fully support the 40 case. That is why I went with the 31 and aftermarket barrel for the 40. I don't care for the factory 40 glock barrel. Now as for the factory 357 sig barrel I have seen test that show less case expansion then the sig barrels. Most reviews rank the 31 at the top of 357 sig guns out there.
