I know a lot of folks own a gun or two, and this thread isn't directed at you guys.

I know a lot of THR folks own *many* guns, and this one's for you.

At some point for most of us when we began to collect "many guns" there was one weapon that inspired that zeal, that desire to possess. Not "if I could have any gun regardless of price" but rather "this, this is the gun, that got me going on collecting guns", whether it's an unattainable rarity, or a not so uncommon C&R.

For me it's the M1941 Johnson. I'd probably pay almost double market for an un-fooled with example, still don't have one.

What's yours?

There are 3 for me:
1. H&K P7 family of pistols
2. M1911s
3. AR15 rifles

An original pattern 1911, particularily one that was made for the war. I know its a pretty common request, but its the truth if your asking what model inspired me.

I found two on marstar for about 1000$ that were made in 1920, they were for sale for about 5 months. I kinda pushed it aside for an unkown reason, and then mentioned it here on the forum just a little while ago. The next day they were both sold... lol
SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT IT WHEN I HAD THE CHANCE

I'd love to own one, one day I suppose.

either an old 870 wingmaster or an mp5. I had a .22 before that, but after that day of shooting a bunch of autos and some clay shooting, I started to collect.

btw I know a lot of folks will cite the 1911, and I hear ya, I'd be happy to pay through the nose for a good war-year example. Sadly the only place I can find them is on gunbroker, and it seems most of those are....dubious, at best.

I bought a JLD PTR-91 for my "general purpose" gun. It was for hunting, plinking, home defense, everything. But then I realized that there were cheaper plinkers, better HD guns, bolt actions, shotguns, handguns, revolvers....

Now I'm hooked. But that was what did it.

For me, first it was Winchester's Model of 1894... .30-30's and revolver cartridge, both. Then I got into milsurps... Mausers, Enfields, and M1 Garand. You really have to like to tinker to do it the way I do though.

Well I do not think it was so much the gun as it was the sport of competion. High power rifle and bullseye pistol. Of course california's hypocrisy towards gun owners has also. But if it has to be one gun I think it would have to be my first m1 garand.

First Rifle was a Remmy 7400 .243, good hunting rifle, but no inspiration, technically it's my fathers I was too young.

First Pistol was a Beretta 92F, what a hunk of junk, no inspiration

First Legally purchased Pistol was a Beretta 92FS, because I train with it, and it was just funky to me to begin with, 5 years latter...this past week I was shooting at over 100 yards and hitting what I was shooting at, a stack of 5 ton tires.

But my first Inspiration in handguns, Kimber Custom II 1911 that was a rental, I have a TLE now birthday present from the wife. My love of 1911's started there about 4 years ago, since then I've bought about 2 a year, but I've also sold about 1 a year, I have 4 now and kind of feel like I should have another one, because I have 5 fingers, so I should have 5 1911's... wife says a finger can be cut off.

The AR15's were always a favorite of mine when I was a kid; I have a very nice M4-gery with all the authentic add ons. It's just a big toy, I have an issued M16M4 that gets shot enough for my AR to collect more dust than carbon.

My wifes inspiration in the gun world came from high power shooting, she has a NM AR. For her it's haveing her own National Match Rifle, that was assembled by a "big name" in the high power shooting community. She also has her own 1911-A1 NRA Hard Ball .45

It is my Ruger Mini-14, I bought it at Wal-Mart in Copperas Cove Texas in 1983. It was the first gun I had ever bought with my own money. I got it because I liked the .223/5.56 cartridge and it was all I could afford at the time. I have had an on going love affair with that little carbine ever since. Of the 30+ I own I can honestly say, that the Mini is the only one I would never part with.

my top 4:(sorry guys I can't pick just 1 )

1911 .45 (because there is so much you can customize)
XP-100 (same as 1911 + high powered wildcat cartridges:D)
AK-47 (was my first gun I owned, a 12th B'day gift from Dad :)now I have 4)
T/C Contender (same as XP-100)

What got me started was receiving a 16 pound cannon ball from a neighbor who worked with my father at a prison. This man also would let this 10 year old handle most of his 80 to 100 gun collection which also included said cannon ball, many derringers and pepper boxes, along with inert mines, artillery shells and edged weapons.

Another local home FFL guy had about 20 old single shot shultzen (sp?) rifles hanging all around the top of his shop. I just had to start a collection!!

Bought a single shot NEF .410 because I couldn't believe they were under $80 on sale, then remembered why I liked shooting in the first place and it all went downhill from there... :D

HKUSP45C: Loreena McKennit did a great job singing the words of Alfred Noyes' "The Highwayman" (re: your top sig line)

My grandfather's rusty old .22 pushed me over the edge. My first was a 10-22.

First Pistol was a...Glock 19 duh. Favorite pistol Kimber RaptorII

First Revolver was a S&W 686. Favorite Revolver still S&W 686

First Shotgun Remington 870. The only shotgun I own

First Rifle Ruger 10/22. Hard Choice but probably my SA M1A loaded.

I'm up to 18 now.

I think itwas the first firearm that I ever used at a vrey young age. A simple Western Auto 22 long rifle bolt action.
I was told numerous times that I could not have it for keeps.
I made up my mind to have my very own someday. I still don't have one either.

A Brno Model 1, 1948 vintage. Simple, rugged, reliable, and very accurate after almost 60 years.

My first real hunting handgun, a .357/9mm Blackhawk convertible, and my Browning BL-22. The Browning was the most well-made, best fit and finished firearm I have ever owned, and the Blackhawk was the finest revolver (overall for accuracy, ruggedness and just plain usefulness) for the money spent I have ever come across.

Bergmann-Bayard M1910

I owned it for a while, and then let it go because I needed money. I still regret the sale.

Not mine, but the same model:
