+100 on the SW band wagon. I have the Sc commander and its been an awesome carry gun. It's the only gun I have sent off to get custom work done to it. I miss it very much.

I'm happy with my basic SW1911 -- so far about 2000 rounds without a single malfunction, and the first 1000 were without cleaning (just some lube every 250 rounds or so).

Just as the original poster who started this thread, I did a lot
of research of reviews as well as opinions on the 1911 Forum in
terms of price, featurs, barrel ramp style, and extractor.

My new S & W 1911 Full Size/5" Bbl. Len. in Stainless with
fixed sights is in a UPS truck somewhere between here in SE
WA and Oklahoma City OK.

I shot the 5" S&W 1911 at my range and quickly fell in love with the gun. I had no failures of any kind and considering the neglect these range guns get, I was very impressed. I couldn't say the same about the Nighthawk and Sig GSR(?) I rented at the same time. It was more accurate than I could shoot and functioned flawlessly with both FMJ (WWB and Magtech) and JHP (Hydra Shok). I did feel the Nighthawk produced tighter groupings, when it worked properly. But my priority is hitting COM and headshots quickly, not 1"-3" groupings at 25 YARDS!!! [not in my wildest dreams].

I liked the gun so much I purchased the scandium commander size, thinking that the smaller gun would carry better. This gun also functioned flawlessly with mixed ammo. Recoil was noticeably stronger but still very manageable. I did have to tighten the grips after each session though. Other than that, no problems.

I did feel that it was too big to carry so I sold it and bought a Colt Defender.

Talk about a kick! But this gun has also functioned flawlessly from day one and I'm really liking it a lot :D

Overall I felt the S&W 1911 were very good quality guns and gave me no problems. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another one if I had the desire for one. The Colt may become my full time carry pistol.

Everyone I personally know who has any of the SnW 1911s has been happy.---WillBrink
That's not true Will, I've just never complained to you about it (I don't think). :)

I loved my S&W 1911 until it went south on me and S&W didn't fix it. But I'll give S&W a second chance (and I'll be glad to pay for the work if needed) before I have a Caspian slide put on it.

Respectfully,

S&w 1911

I have 2. The S&W as pictured above which has been flawless and very accurate from day 1 and I use it in practical shoots. I also have a PC 1911 in stainless. I purchased it from the factory store and got a great deal on it because it had some minor scratches on the slide. Took it to the range and it had failures with feeding and ejecting. Brought it back to the factory as I also live in Mass. Got it back with new barrel, new trigger and I believe a new slide (not a mark on it). It has been perfect since. The only reason I don't use it in practical shoots is due to the black on black sights which my old eyes have difficulty with. With new sights it's going to play.

I can tell you if your gona get one do it now, cuz since I got mine the price of this pistol has gone up about 200 dollars.

I have a problem with mine, I cant get it to jam, fail to fire, fail to feed, or stove pipe, to learn how to clear it!

I highly recomend the S&W 1911 !

I've had two of them. A 1911SC Commander (early billboard model) and a Gunsite PD. Both needed to go back to Smih for work. But Smith paid shipping an fixed them. My Gunsite is just superb. Goes bang everytime. And is target gun accurate. I don't seriously think the $2000.00 guns I've shot were anymore accurate. And some not as reliable. Since i bought it I see no reason to spend uber-bucks for any other 1911's. It's that good.
