Anybody on here have a Pistol/Carry Permit issued in Westchester County NY? Might have to move down there for work related reasons.

How difficult was it to get? How are the judges in that part of the state?

Up here in Greene County NY, the permit is pretty easy to get as long as you don't have a criminal record. The Judges are pretty good up here.

Any info would be appreciated.

keep your permanent residence up there and rent a closet in Westchester.

Westchester is very restrictive.

reminder: your permit is not valid (except for locked transportation in trunk) in the five boroughs of NYC.

Thanks for the reply. I might have to do that. I don't ventire into NYC. If I ever had to, I leave the guns home. I think Westchester is just the rest of upstate NY as far as long guns go. However, handguns are a totaly different animal in this state.

I think it's about time to pack up the truck and head south to Virginia or Florida.

I lived in Westchester all my life up until 2 years ago and can tell you its not a very gun friendly area. My grandfather was lucky to get a carry permit because he owned a bunch of apartment buildings in a bad area and would collect rent. I know of a few people who own private businesses in the area that have carry permits because they transport large sums of money, but if a lowly peasant wants to get a carry permit just for self defense you will most likely be denied. Getting a pistol permit to own pistols for sporting purposes is another story and very doable, but to carry is very hard. Good luck and my advice would be get out of NY...I did and I haven't regretted it once.

Do you already have a Greene County permit?

I know that in Madison County, I would be able to leave my permit in Madison even if I moved to a different part of the state, but I would need to take care of all Pistol Permit business (i.e. adding or removing handguns from my license) in Madison County.

You'll be required to inform the authorities of your new address, but you may be able to keep your permit where you originally obtained it.

The NY Permit does not have an expiration term currently no. I am unsure (and really should find out) what happens to the NY Permit if you move out of state. If it goes away, I should find out if I can rent a room at my folk's house to maintain some sort of residency to keep the permit.
