What do YOU carry, and exactly how often do you carry it?

On car trips I carry a Glock 17 in a camera bag that's just the right size for the gun and four spare magazines. I also have a slightly modified Fobus paddle holster that works extremely well for when I carry the Glock on my person. The gun I most often carry around town is a Taurus CIA model in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster.

I carry whenever I'm in a state that I've got a permit for. Unfortunately, Illinois, Wisconsin, Maryland and New Jersey keep me from making broad sweeping statements like "If I'm awake, I'm packing."

Anyhow, I have several different modes of dress, but what I carry stays pretty consistent. One of my fullsize 1911s with between 1 and 3 spare mags as primary, with p32 with one reload as backup. There's also usually another 1911 in my computer bag, but I don't actually carry that one. It just sits on the floor of the truck.

As for the hows of it all, my usual method is: 1911 carried at about 4:00, in Don Hume 721 OT pancake holster, on the world's most overkill trouser belt, made for me by local leather guy Stan Nichols, reload(s) at 8:00, and p32 in pocket holster in right hip pocket. With that setup, I generally wear jeans, t-shirt, and either a dickies long tail workshirt untucked and unbuttoned, or a denim "presentation jacket," from duluth trading company as cover garment, depending on what look I'm going for.

Alternately, I've also got a desantis IWB that i wear sometimes, if I'm trying to use a shorter cover garment, like a vest or something.

taurus 905 9mm or amt backup .45 in fanny-pack,taurus 605 or HK p7psp IWB,seecamp lw32, S&W 442 or the backup in pocket holster.I carry most any time I can by law, can't carry at work, but I do to and from unless I ride the Harley. I'd say about 50% of the time I just pocket carry,25% IWB or fanny and the rest I double up usually the HK and seecamp or 442 and 605 depends on mood and risk.

Usually a Kimber full-size, with one spare mag. If I'm out in the woods, hunting, hiking or otherwise killing time, a Ruger Bisley Vaquero with stout handloads, and a dozen or so spare rounds.

CZ P-01 with Federal +P 124 grain HST, OWB. I carry whenever I'm out and about (grocery shopping, running to Blockbuster, on the town with the missus, whatever). When I'm at home, I always have some firearm within arm's length.

I carry a 4" N-Frame S&W and a J-Frame Airweight Off-Duty.

If I have to carry a "mousegun" it's the J-Frame and a Kahr PM9. I will be picking up a Ruger GP100 3"er later today, and will carry that concealed, along with my J-Frame after I get it back from the gunsmith.

The Ruger will be a little lighter than the N-Frame, but the reason I'm getting it is the caliber. My love of 357 Magnum was reignited recently. :D

5" 1911

In all honesty, the "trick" to carrying a full size handgun everyday is being willing to spend money on leather and make small changes to your wardrobe. I use IWB, OWB and very infrequently a shoulder holster. My carry guns are two 5" 1911's set up nearly identical, except one has an ambi safety, both are steel frame. I carry these (one at a time) about 5 days a week. The other two days get a Sig P230 stuffed in a SmartCarry when I can't wear an untucked T-shirt or sport coat.

June to September: Bersa Thunder 380 IWB

Rest of the year:

Gun #1 XD45 Service XD Gear OWB paddle
Gun #2 LW Commander OWB Galco Concealable

I switch back and forth from the XD45 to the Commander depending on circumstances.

I really like the XD Gear paddle. I lined the paddle with moleskin. It's very comfortable.

 Ain't paranoia grand! I actually feel uncomfortable if I haven't got a big piece of metal on my hip. If it's missing, I feel vulnerable and exposed. As a matter of fact, my wife is uneasy if I'm not carrying my usual belt load! :D

In my experience a decent holster makes all the difference. (It might take a couple of tries before you find a holster that's comfortable for you.) In addition to my big G-21 and an extra magazine I, sometimes, carry a Beretta, 'Alley Cat' in an outside coat pocket.

Sure, 'mouse guns' are fine to carry; and, any gun is better than no gun at all; it's just that if you should ever find yourself in a situation where you really need to draw and fire it ... Well, then, count on your, 'mouse gun' being a real killer, but NOT the real stopper that it actually needs to be!

On the down side, you might die in spite of the fact that you (wisely) had a gun. On the up side you'll go to your grave secure in the knowledge that the other guy, probably, wasn't able to walk home. ;)

At my 8-5 sig 220...but then it is not concealed :) off work depending on weather xd .45 or taurus pt. 145pro. use the same fobus holster. I try to carry in the same place on my person all the time. If I can't, for some reason I carry the taurus in a IWB.

I always carry my GLOCK 23 IWB at about 7 or 8 o'clock considering that I am a lefty. My holster is a Galco, I believe it is their Summer Comfort model. I really have no problems concealing it that way even during the summer months. I carry always when in a state that allows it.

What kind of 1911?

I have only two options to carry, a five and a half pound stainless (beautiful) .45 1911,
What the Hell 1911 are you carrying? An all-lead 6" with a 100 round mag? Five and a half pounds is 90 oz. A typical all-steel 1911 is (IIRC) 43 oz, or a bit under half of that.

My carry? A Kahr PM9 (14 oz), nine months out of the year.

Kahr P45 (18.5 oz) the remaining three months.

If I could move far enough North, maybe I could reverse those numbers. :)

I carry very infrequently living in a state that doesn't trust most of its citizens to carry (funny- with a FL out of state permit you can carry in more than half the states in the Union, but you can't be trusted to carry by your own state if you live in a state like mine). Still, I have a lot of options for when I can carry.

Usually when in a state where I can carry I carry my Taurus 85CH and/or S&W 442 (Taurus IWB, S&W in pocket). Sometimes my NAA Guardian in .32ACP will be in my pocket instead of the 442 (never as an only gun though, only as a 2nd gun). Often it is a Taurus PT140 Millennium Pro IWB (as a DAO it is a similar manual of arms- I usually ignore the safety). I also have a S&W 65LS for that duty, but being my 1st .357mag it holds some sentimental value and I can't bring myself to letting it get beat up- I really do need a new 3" K-frame that I can allow to suffer the wear and tear of a carry gun. I have a SIG 229 and S&W 1911SC to switch with the PT 140 M. Pro, but I need good holsters for them (better than Uncle Mike's) before they'll see any carry other than around the house.

None are full sized pistols. The SIG is the "compact" version of the 226 (it isn't subcompact but it isn't full-sized, it is a good size for either the range or CCW). The K-frame is a 3" not the typical service revolver 4" or 6". The 1911 is scandium (light weight) and is Commander sized (4" barrel), it is not a full-sized 1911. However, all three firearms have some size and weight to them (mid-to-upper 20ozs for the autos, mid 30s for the K-frame).

The J-frames and Millennium Pro see more carry time (mainly due to considerations other than size and weight- though if I lived in a state where I could carry every day it may prove a bigger consideration). They are small guns, but not among the smallest and lightest possibilities (the J-frames are a 21oz steel .38 and a 15oz aluminium .38, none of these 12 or 13oz scandium or titanium .357mags for me please, and you can definately get smaller in 9mm than the PT 140 M. Pro). The Guardian is definately on the heavy side for a .32ACP pocket gun (I would rather have the Kel-tec P32 but it isn't MD legal).

I carry a Kimber Pro Carry in 45 ACP, A Kimber compact in 45 ACP, a SIG 229 in 40 S&W, or a Glock 23 normally. I try to carry every time I leave the house - always have one in my vehicle at least.
