Anyone getting one of the AIM shooter enfield 2a for $99

Be sure to remove the action from the stock and look for corrosion. I bought one 8 years ago, or so, when they were cheap, and found pitting on the barrel near the rear barrel band so deep that I did not think it safe to shoot.
That's good advice for any milsurp.

Not to mention that there is usually a ton of cosmo and dirt under there.

Linda asked if I wanted any SA battlepacks, but at $49 each I declined.... I still have some I bought for $22.95 and paying twice that kills me.

Besides the SA is nice clean ammo but Berdan primed- I can't reload that.

dagnabit. I went to aim to have a look at these. and while I did not purchase
one I did get another M44 which I needed like a hole in my head.

BTW, AIM also has 30 cal ammo cans for $3 each.
Just remember that the shipping charges if you add ammo cans to the rifle order aren't right, you need to order them seperately and will probably want to get quite a few to cover shipping. I got some and they're not too bad, some of them are a bit rustier on the bottom than I'd prefer though.

I was looking at these a while back; now I'll have to look closer. Looks like a good deal.
A friend of mine has in mind that he wants a .308 bolt action for a "truck gun". I mentioned one of these but he kind of lost interest when I said that there seems to be a controversy as to how safe it is to fire .308 Win commercial ammo in them. I have a few questions for those that have them:

1. Has anyone here had one damaged by commercial ammo, or heard a first-hand acount of such?

2 Someone said the barrels are chrome lined on these, and as such have nice clean rifling. Is this true?

3. Is it a problem to shorten a chrome-lined barrel? I was told once that it could cause the chrome to flake.

4. Any opinions as to whether this would make a good truck gun? Durability, reliability, accuracy, etc..

Not getting one of the Enfields.... but I did order two handpicked K31's that I should get tomorrow :neener:

Got mine today. Must say i am impressed. Got a 2A1 model like I wanted. Couple of heel repairs top and bottom of buttstock. About 3 more repairs in the stock. Not bad looking. Reciever, bolt, nose cap, and magazine all matching.

Bore was dirty, took some spray degreasing and it cleaned up nice. Ran a patch through it and it hardley had any dirt on it. Bore is nice and bright.

Metal is coated in the Black paint like my other 2A. think i may leave the paint on this one, as i stripped the other.

Will have to check the condition of the parts under the wood, when i give it a good cleaning. But judging from the rest of the gun, think it should be good.

For $99 i think it was great deal. Except for a couple of more stock repairs, its as nice as the one i got earlier from AIM.

Post pics in a few days.

Damn, talk about a hundred bucks well spent. Nice rifle and clean up job, Black Wolf. I honestly can't believe AIM has had these rifles in stock for so long. Well, maybe with the current cost of 7.62NATO ammo it is believable.

Yeah. The whole thing was painted in thick black paint. All gummed up. I used stripper, dremel w/sander, dental tool / pick, wire brush, steel wool, puddy knife, utility knife (think that's about it) to get it all off. Some came off easy while other areas were pretty thick and some tight spots too. This was the toughest, longest time, to clean up rifle I've ever bought (and I have a lot of them).

I was gonna' duracoat it but found that BC Super Blue did a nice job - makes it almost look like it is parkerized.

Thanks.

Hmm, the Enfield look is growing on me, and I would like on in 7.62, but they cannot use commercial .308 can they? That may hold me back from buying one.

Bought one at the gun show for $150 Made in 1966 (didn't know about the $99 specials). Bore isn't bright, but not pitted. Bolt isn't matching, but within less than 200 of the rifle. the seller said he had shot it (yeah, right). Anyway no 4473. Hopefully the machining was close enough in 1966 for the headspace to be within tolerance. The extractor isn't beat up. I don't plan to shoot commercial .308 in it. Seems like it should serve as a SHTF/truck rifle. Have heard that brake cleaner works well for removing the vestigial grease- any comments on that?

Commercial .308? Well, it all depends on how much of a risk taker you are IMHO. I'll either shoot NATO .308 (surplus) or reload my own, downloaded to reasonable pressures.

...I didn't use break cleaner, except to blow out the tight areas after I picked at it with a dental pick. Works great as a degreaser - I used mainly paint stripper, and scrubbed with a wire brush.

It looked like parkerizing under the paint. Funny thing, I sanded some spots down to white metal to get the paint off, but when I put the BC Super Blue on it, the spots that I sanded down to white metal turned to the parker color again. Nice color. Maybe it's just the alloy of the metal that makes it the grey/green color. Kind of weird.

This rifle weighs a lot - even according to the wife.

Looks like I'm going to have to tackle one of my "black paint" specials for a winter project. To those of you who are on the fence about buying one of these, just do it! Plus you can buy some SA for 49.00 bucks a pack. Granted, this is WAY more than it was a couple of years ago, but still very reasonable in todays ammo market.

.308/7.62mm same same.....

How do you "load" .308 to 7.62 "pressure"??? Please explain that one....

Federal 150grn SP ".308" has more pressure than a 150grn FMJ "7.62"? Or how about I pull the 7.62 FMJs and put a .308 SP in it....does that change it?

I just got mine yesterday. It looks just like the ones I got for $169 a few months back, except this one has two vertical stock repairs on the side. Pretty good deal. It should clean up nicely.

They banged me for $25 to ship the rifle and four 30 cal ammo cans.

Where are you finding SA packs for 49???

Once you completely disassemble these rifles, strip them, and refinish them they are very good looking rifles. They seem to be in very good condition in the barrel and seem to be pretty accurate. $99 is a good investment for a vehicle weapon. I already own two, may get another to clean for the winter.

Jeremy2171 - Read my post again, I didn't say I was gonna' load .308 to 7.62x51 pressures. I said I was gonna' shoot surplus 7.62 NATO or reload my cartridges to less than full powder charge or max loads, to a reasonable, less than full CUP/PSI, particularly because I shoot cast lead bullets in my milsurps.

However, I won't shoot commercial .308 ammo in a NATO receiver either - it's my choice, my opinion, and a risk that I choose not to take. This link is an interesting, in depth debate on it:
