A while back a bought a tec 9 from a buddy of mine really cheap. And I now I want to sell it. So, I brought it to a local shop of mine today, and told them that I was looking to sell a gun. I had it in a hard case, and handed it to him.

He opens the case and immediately closes it, telling me that they wouldn't give me a dollar for it. Curious, I ask why.

He hells me, "Because if I sell this, it will bring all of the brothas" <his words

He told me he would double check though. He asked the owner/manager if he was interested, and I was given the same answer as before. The original salesman went on to say they didn't carry SKS's or AK's for the same reason. That the "brothas" would come in and buy them and shoot each other up.

I simply walked out. I couldn't even talk to them any more. Just thought I'd share/vent.

I can understand a gun shop not being interested in a Tec9 (because they regard them as junk, or that's just not their market), but the kind of blatant bigotry you encountered is inexcusable.

No, it's not full auto, just a simple semi. I got it for $100.... was hard to say no to. I'll take my business to another store and hopefully have a better experience.

WOW, thats like a close minded racist anti remark. Dont give them a cent, or a gun.

jimmylove Sorry about your experience. Be proud of yourself for not stooping to their level and responding in kind. You took the High Road!

Who wants gang members in their *gun* store?

He didn't say gang members. He said Brotha's. Clearly a reference to African Americans. Do you believe all African Americans are gang bangers?

If you do, you certainly don't belong on the High Road!

crebralfix, how many gang members go to the sheriff, get a permit to purchase, then after the three month wait (lazy sheriff) go to the gun store to buy their pistol?

His store, his rules. (Even if he has demonstrated his inability of reasoning) Your money, your gun, your choice. I'd never give him any business after hearing that.

Last election cycle Philly's mayor (John Street) sent out campaign flyers stating "The brothers and sisters are in charge now, we need your votes to stay in office."

The shop owner should have chosen his words more carefully, but I'm not going to join the THR lynch mob. Afterall, no one condemned the mayor.

Who says that anyone who buys a Tec9 is a gang member? Obviously the OP isn't.
How do you know that?

I don't personally care if the gun store owner wants "brothas" in his store or not. This is America. Busines owners should be able to choose their customers, even if it is for reasons we may not agree with. This is THR. Not the PC road.

It might not be the smartest move on his part. Black folk money is just as spendable as white folk money.

Wish I could find a Tec9 for $100. :)

The business owner has his own issues. They may be hurting his sales.

But until you buy out the business, what right do you have to control who he sells to?

I'm no biggot, but can't the shop owner have/give any excuse he wants? His shop means his rules. I appreciate taking The High Road every chance I get...but Political Correctness & it's corresponding thin-skinned, can't-wait-to-be-insulted attitude is insincere CRAP.

What if the OP had been lookin to sell a, say for instance...Perazzi Shotgun. And the Shop owner opened the case, shut the case & said, "Nope". When pressed for a reason he responded, "Because if I sell this, it will bring in all the rich snobs. And I don't LIKE rich snobs. I've had BAD experiences dealing with rich snobs in the past. And they'll irritate my regular customers with their rich snob attitudes & ego-maniac manners. And I LIKE selling & serving my regular customers. So I won't pay a cent for this Perazzi because I don't WANT to pay a cent for this Perazzi."? Would y'all be all upset & indignant because the owner didn't want to do business with High-Grade Shotgun buyers? Really, would THAT bother you?

Are y'all enraged because he didn't BUY the gun? Or because, when he was asked why, he gave an answer that you don't agree with? Well, at the end of the month when he pays his bills, have you agreed to send him some money? Because if you haven't...mind your own business.

Brother "brotha" is just a word, like Baptist or Redneck or Snob. And, like those other words, it's come to describe a series of behaviors that, for WHATEVER reason, the owner didn't care to expose himself or his business to. Why can't we all put our tender, over-sensitive feelings away and let the man run his business ANY WAY HE CHOOSES?

And consumers should be able to NOT give their money to imbeciles. Clearly the OP doesn't want to. That gunstore has no RIGHT to his business or his money.

I agree that business owners should have the legal right to decline any customers they don't want. (Though they don't currently have such a legal right)

On the other hand, I don't want to patronize any business owner that is such a [Non-HighRoad adjective], and I have every legal right to do so.

People like this [Non-HighRoad adjective] are exactly the sort that give all of us a bad name.

His shop means his rules.
My MONEY means MY rules.

Back in '99, a local gunshop treated me badly. I used to spend literally hundreds of dollars a year on range time and supplies there. I haven't been back. Neither have any of my friends.

Is the shop still there? If it's not...you were right. If it is...then they didn't miss your "hundreds of dollars" very much. Maybe dealing with you wasn't worth the "tens of dollars" that your patronage generated. And that's the OWNER'S decision because Captialism works, everytime.
