I live in an older neighborhood...a mile from an active-duty navy base and a mile from 'downtown' in the other direction. 'Hood' was built/developed immediately post-WW2, i.e. 1k-2k square feet single-family residences, mostly owned, but some rented, and more rented with every passing day.
Those owners who rent these houses out don't seem to care whose money they're collecting as long as they're collecting it. In the meantime, the renters (occupants) degrade the neighborhood in various and sundry ways and make "ownership" a deplorable position.
Recently, our next-door neighbor, a male, whose wife and two teen-aged children have left him, is having some questionable visitors. In short, a forty-something white man who used to be married and had two kids and a job is now accepting into his home 'apparently' undersirable peeps and they're on the dark/blind side of our house. If we were a main-battle-tank, we'd be requesting our wing-man to "scratch our back" and git these MF's off of us.
But alas, we're not a MBT...we're residents of a shotgun house in a shotgun neighborhood and we want some freakin' attention.
Mid-forties white guy, whose wife and two teen-aged girls left a couple of months ago, is now having new and questionable guests at his house, which house is only twenty feet from ours on our 'blind' side. White 45-year-old has 30-year-old whorish-looking chick riding a bicycle visiting...she won't speak to us or neighbors and sits on his steps waiting for his arrival with her head in her hands...suspected crack-house thugs from three doors down come around now and they're black and white and young and old and come at all hours of the freakin' night...****ing doo-rags on their heads and Rastafa hair-do's and wasted-looking whores and chirren following them...
Pardon me for wasting your bandwidth, but I just answered my own question. The 'good' column in this equation has no chance of trumping the 'bad' column, and just to make sure, me and the other male members that give a **** about the neighborhood are gonna 'intervene' on it (AND WE'D APPRECIATE YOUR THOUGHTS/BLESSINGS).
We're going to get together, get our facts straight, approach him when he's alone, and make certan that he understands our concerns, our fears, our wishes, and our future actions if 'social freaks' continue to stream into his residence, not only at odd hours, but at any hour. Had it up to 'here' with the neighborhood going to the dogs.
However, we don't expect that plan to work. We fully expect that he's too far gone to respect our position. We plan that phase as an interim, to be documented and recorded, and to be a prelude to more stringent, er, 'police' action.
We're peeps who are getting to know each other as neighbors (at long last) and we're not gonna take this **** anymore. But having said that, we know we need to be careful. What say you THR???
