Pocket size .45

There are 2 shot .45 LC derringers and someone makes an AMT .45 acp. The Para Warthawg and Nitehawg .45's are pretty small too. And some snubs come in 45 acp or 45 LC. Kahr has very small .40's but I don't think any are in .45.

Other than a single shot or a Derringer I would not think it possible or practical as the .45ACP round is allot larger than a .32ACP or .380ACP

It would be hard if not impossible to design an ultra compact semi auto .45ACP that is equal or smaller in size to a .380 if it were easy or feasible it would have been done by now I would think.

Maybe in .45GAP one could design something similar to a Kahr P-9 compact?

Compact .45s that come to mind are the Detonics the Springfield Micro .45 the Semmerling LM4 Colt Officers Glock 30 and 36 glock could make a ultra compact .45GAP along the lines of the model 26/27
One could also design and built something like the discontinued COP 4 shot .357 derringer hopefully getting it to work better than the original did.

AMT .45acp is a lot smaller than the PT145. Probably a lot heavier though. Check Gunbroker.

Kahr makes a P45 compact polymer autoloader, but the reports have been mixed as to its performance. I would personally go with a steel framed compact like their MK40. It's got PLENTY of juice.

150 rounds from my Defender is absolutely nothing compared to that magnum hell in --- what? --- a 1-7/8" barrel?

But looking at that Downsizer, man. What's it do, downsize you to about three fingers?

Ive pocket carried my Colt Defender in my jeans. and I belive I read several have allready tried the new Colt agent for pocket carry.
Right now I have a CA Bulldog 44 in my pocket .

I think the Colt New Agent uses a bunch of the same parts as the Defender. Colt told me that springs are in short supply because they've been allocated to the new one. Rats.

High Standard is presently producing the AMT .45 Backup - $489.00. I have an old one. Brick-heavy but dependable. Definitely not a pocket carry, but not all that bad in a IWB.

Cobra Patriot .45 is roughly the size of the Kel Tec P-11.

Same with mine. Had it for years. About the best CCW DAO 45 I can think of. Much under appreciated.

Aa to size, it is exactly six inches long. Holds 6+1 with flush fitting mag, more with 1911 mags.

Keep in mind the recoil involved with large caliber bug guns. Those .357 mag and .44 mag Derringers are no fun to shoot extensively at the range when you're trying to get accurate with it. Look into a small J frame, Kel-Tec, or Kahr. They should suffice.

That Cobra Patriot is a new one I never heard of it, from the description and pics I am intrigued by it and will check into one.

Have you looked at a SIG P245? Although not really a pocket gun, its really not much bigger than a 2" J frame, and will fit into a large pocket. Mine is VERY accurate and has been 110% reliable. It will also work with P220 mags, which is what I carried for my reloads when I used it.





I dont usually carry a .45 these days, as I've switched over to SIG's in 357SIG.

The Cobra Patriot is essentially (maybe exactly, but I don't know that) the no longer produced Republic Arms Patriot. I had one but just found it too big/heavy for pocket carry and sold it.

I just cringe at the thought. I can only imagine how low I would should do to anticipation of the recoil. Talk about developing a flinch.

I've pocket-carried my Kimber UC for quite some time without problem.

Ok, why has no one mentioned the Glock 36? It meets his criteria almost perfectly. A .45 in the same package as a sub-compact 9mm? Sign me up.

I second the Cobra Patriot. It is the most compact .45 in light-weight polymer (though the Kahr PM45 is close). Recoil and trigger pull are reasonable for a DAO. I bought mine new a couple years ago for about $212 plus shipping. Check out Gunbroker or Auction Arms on a regular basis as they can be hard to find. As far as I know Cobra still makes them.

Isn't the Kahr P45 about the same size as the Cobra Patriot? I remember seeing a Patriot review in a gun magazine of mine, and it was something around 6" long, 4.8" tall, 1" wide. Those dimensions are nearly identical to the Kahr P45's.
