I think some of the responses are very wise. Why spend $2K, when you can spend 1/3 of that and have a bunch left over for ammo, components or a build-it yourself project? After all, the 1911 is a fairly simple gun to customize, and there are many projects that can be done by a garage gunsmith.
If you have $2K and gotta spend it on a 1911...
I had a SA Pro. Way overpriced for what it delivered. If you want to go that route, you may be better off buying a Rock Island or low-end SA and sending it to a smith for a proper build.
If you don't want to wait the year-plus for the full-custom, I recommend the Ed Brown.
Of course, Valtro would be the top of the list (and no, you can't buy mine
), but since he's now building guns for more critical uses than range queens, the wait is quite a while.
