I was adjusting the trigger on a new Rem. 700, and they were really cemented in. After backing out the overtravel screw, the notch rounded out so that I can't use it. All I need is a replacement set screw of that length (fine thread, I believe) and Remington won't send me one because "Your gun is dangerous, don't touch it, send it back to the factory ASAP!!!" :cuss: Please, just send me the $.10 set screw!!

Does anyone know where I can look to find this set screw? I checked some auto parts stores, Home Depot, Lowes, etc. but all they have is coarse threads.

Thanks!

You would have to know what thread it is, but most any hardware store has metal drawers full of various Allen head & slotted set-screws in fine, course, metric, etc., in a wide range of diameters.
You might find something that will fit.

Or, you might not.
It may be a special gun thread Reminton uses to keep people from messing with the trigger adjustments.

It's a smaller "40" pitch thread. I found a screw that fits in my assorted bolts bin, but it's brass and won't hold up.

I guess I'll just get a steel screw of the correct pitch, cut it off at the correct length and slot it for a screwdriver. Bear season is next Monday.

I think I'll buy one of those gunsmith cap/set screw kits. Seems like you need this stuff all at the last minute.

Did you get this fixed? I backed out that same screw and I think a spring inside sproinged into the threaded hole. Now the screw will not go back in as far as it used to. Any idea what to do?
