The best M-4gery?

I love these 'The Best' threads.....

Let me some it up -

"Buy Stag, best bang for your buck"
"Buy RRA, they make a great rifle"
"I've always had great luck is Bushy and they'll get my money"
"Colt is the best at everything, anything else is crap"
"Colt is overpriced, I can buy as good for a lot less"
"New S&W M&P is awesome"
"LMT is the way to go"
"All major AR manufactures are good - pick the options you want and don't look back"
"Only buy AR's that are mil-spec, since that is what all good mall-ninja's do"

and so on and so forth

What is boils down to is - buy whatever you want. Someone will always have an opinion that something else is better.

You will never get a consensus as to the 'Best' - too many options, too many different uses, etc

LMT is one of the best.

There isn't really one "best", but there are varying degrees of good quality AR15's.

My Bushmaster and my Stag have both been reliable and accurate for me; frankly, I haven't seen a drop-off in performance or accuracy with them from the Colt's my employer provides for my use.

Of course, if I could find a 6920 for a decent price around here, I'd probably snap it up in a heartbeat ...

that's true for AR15s in general, but if you're trying to make something that's as close to an M4 as you can get (for the sake of argument, identical except for semi-auto and an 16" barrel), as opposed to varmint, target, and a thousand other configs, then that's an entirely different story and really only a couple vendors get close.

My armalite works like a charm, it was built using an eagle arms lower but the rest is all armalite. I've shot about 700 rounds through it so far with no problems, I use RRA 10 round magazines only though.

All the higher end brands seem to be just fine.

Colt invented it.
As one writer said, "It is the Gold standard.

Hmm, the history channel(maybe the military channel, but its on both) gave me the impression that Eugene Stoner invented it, and was developed by Armalite? Maybe.

From what I hear though, the Colt AR parts aren't interchangeable with most other AR parts.

It would seem to me that if someone owned one from each manufacturer they would be able to speak with some authority on the subject. Everything else is going to be opinion based on personal preference.

I have two colts, an armalite, a RRA, a Bushie, a model 1 upper on a double star lower and a dpms.

Out of my group, the Armalite is by far the best overall. It is about five years old and I don't know if they still produce the same quality firearms as they used to, but mine is awesome. It is my go to gun and has been flawless.

Aside from that the rest are pretty much on par with each other.

My personal ranking on these:

Armalite
Colt
RRA
Bushie
DPMS

One thing I've noticed

Prices have crept up in the last few years. Stag (considered one of the cheaper but better) is up around $800 fully assembled. For a couple hundred more than that you can buy a fully assembled RRA or Colt (though you have to scour Gunbroker.com for Colts and snag one).

JonB,

pretty much sums it up:
"Buy Stag, best bang for your buck"
"Buy RRA, they make a great rifle"
"I've always had great luck is Bushy and they'll get my money"
"Colt is the best at everything, anything else is crap"
"Colt is overpriced, I can buy as good for a lot less"
"New S&W M&P is awesome"
"LMT is the way to go"
"All major AR manufactures are good - pick the options you want and don't look back"
"Only buy AR's that are mil-spec, since that is what all good mall-ninja's do"

I have 2 Stag's a model #2 M4ofgery and a model #4 A2

I have only owned a Bushmaster, and I love it. Works great!

I hear lots of good about Bushies ... and the other brands.

Get one, any brand, and shoot the heck out of it!!

Alright, alright, since folks want to nitpick.
The best M4geries are made by custom gunsmiths with an eye towards quality and none of the big makers will come close because their bottom line is producing a product as cheaply as possible and marketing that product to the retail market with as much profit margin as possible.

Want the best?
Have a gunsmith build the rifle using components as close as possible to military specifications.

If you must have a factory rifle that generally meets and exceeds military specification, my vote goes to Lewis Machine and Tool.

I heard the best ARs are made by Colt out of solid gold w/ diamonds on top...:D

Pick one. I like RRA because that's what I bought (no other reason).
