I saw, and handled, an FN FNP-9 for the first time yesterday.

I was (am) quite impressed with the quality of the piece (since it's made in the US :)), and with how it felt in the hand.

Any first hand :))) experiences out there?

I think it is great value and a great gun. Like a 350-400.00 dollar Sig. They ship them with 3 mags, which is kinda nice. Go check out five seven forums or Fnforum.net, there's alot of good stuff over there. I would wait just a bit to see what the new FN USG FNPs will look like. They are supposed to have a decocker/safety and forward slide serrations, and should be out soon according to a post over on the fnforums. Also, they are working on a striker fired gun, I saw this on a post over at Downrange TV, Michael Bane's forums, but haven't seen or heard anything else.

Great pistol, lite weight, never FTF/FTE and three 16 round magazines, also it is easy to take apart to clean. Buy a new one now and receive some free goodies.

Lot of features for the money. I really like that they give you 3 mags (I always need at least this many for any CC gun). I don't like that new mags are $40 each, though.

The FN-9 is the gun that went with me to Thunder Ranch. 1500 rounds in three days and zero malfunctions. Good feel, great accuracy, durable and easy to field strip and clean. The initial snag was finding a holster for it, but I found that any XD holster will work great.

I sold the FN-9 when I got home for a bit more than I paid for it, and promptly bought a FN-40.

500 rounds through my FNP-9 so far and no malfunctions of any kind. The pistol feels great in my hand and shoots where I point it. The only issue I've had is some scratching/pitting of the aluminum guide rod but this has not affected operstion at all, and I may be too picky. I'm told the guide rod can be replaced with a steel part from FN, but I haven't ordered one yet.

I'd buy another FNP tomorrow.

OK, you guys talked me into it...

(Like heroin addicts need to be talked into buying more heroin, of course :))

A FNP-9 dutone is on the way from CDNN...

By the way, Spyvie, I have an Astra A-75 in 9x19mm that also came with an aluminum recoil spring guide rod. After a few hundred rounds, it was also looking a little roughed up (but not as much as your FNP-9 one looks). Although I've never heard of anyone having problems with this aluminum rod, I had the guys at the shop make me up a near duplicate in titanium (I just happened to have a titanium rod that was big enough to turn into a recoil spring guide rod. Stainless steel would have worked just as good, perhaps even better).

So, if the steel replacement rods for the FNP-9 become unavailable, it's not hard to turn out a replacement.
