Automatic Glocks other than 18- how are they legal?

I've come across several videos on Youtube where people tape themselves firing fully automatic Glocks but claiming that they are some other model than the 18. How is that possible, legally? I hear tell of something called the FSSG, but I have to ask: where are these people getting them, and how are they legal? I thought parts that converted semi-automatic weapons into fully automatic weapons were illegal to import except for military and police.

I ask because if they are not legal in these applications these people are videotaping themselves breaking the law, which needless to say does not strike me as a good idea.

As for the original question, I would imagine that the referenced videos are of police departments or class III dealers who are legally allowed post-86 MGs.
 
Okay, time for the dumb, tangential question: Why the hell would you want to go FA with a pistol?

It's not like you have the mag capacity to lay down much suppression fire. It's not like you have a shoulder stock to aim. It's not like you have a long enough barrel to get maximum power out of the round.

Other than the fun factor, what's the point?
(Not that I don't think fun factor isn't important, mind you.)
It just seems like a FA Glock is an answer to a question no one has never needed to ask.
 
That is what I said before I saw one of those videos. One video had a guy putting them in a pretty tight circle at 15 yards on FA. Surprised me.
 
Also remember that not everyone lives in the US. There are countries in the world still where that kind of thing is legal.

They say it is only available to class III/SOT dealer or gov agency, LE dept. Probably someone has simply cloned the device, it can't be too complex, looking at it.
 
I don't particularly like NFA items because I think they are as of right now way overpriced to due the restrictions (not including the 200 dollar tax) but if I could get one of those FSSG parts that would rock.

Yes, it would be a fun toy... if only the registry wasn't closed :(.
 
Post '86 dealer samples legally manufactured by a licensed and registered manufacturer.

Lots of people can make new machine guns. They only have LEO and the military to sell them to though.
 
I, meaning ETS, Inc., used to have a Glock auto-sear, built by another SOT in Alabama. Not being a Glock guy, I never put it into a gun, but sold it to a local range. They put it together using a 17 slide and a CCF race frame. I've since shot it a few times, and it is as difficult to control as you might imagine. Once you've practiced with it, however, it gets easier.
 
The glock auto conversion is incredibly easy, but massively retarded, as disassembly will show the gun was used as an auto for it's lifetime.

Many enthusiasts do not hold the same reverence for the NFA that we do here.
 
The primary market for a select-fire Glock is actually the bodyguard / executive-protection market. It gives them a weapon they can conceal fairly easily, but still have the ability to lay suppressive fire in dire situations.
 
I've tried both the standard and stocked G17/19 conversions, and I just didn't see the point. Without the stock, it was hideously uncontrollable...maybe with an awful lot of practice groups might be marginally acceptable, but I'd still prefer semi. If they had some form of rate reduction they might be decent, but at 1200 RPM it's a waste of ammo. With a stock on it..you might as well just get a real subgun.
