Nashville.........with all the Elvis impersonators....well, what problem ps I always wanted a pink kal-tec..when I drew it, whilst he was laughing, I'd make this day his last.

Bob, lose your stereotypes and your xenophobia... I'll go shooting with anyone.

Too many gays think that "gun owners" are just "rednecks out to bash gays." This organization goes a LONG way to dragging them over to our side...

This reason alone is more than enough to support an organization like the pink pistols. Regardless of whatever opinions we have on other issues, we must all stand together for RKBA. If the brady bunch sees us all helping out a group like the pink pistols, they will have a much harder time calling us all "red neck, bigot, KKK members".

Frankly Mr. Barroman loses gaydar points because he's wearing brown shoes with a black outfit.

His pistol grip technique is "gay".

So I'm gay?

How about that? I never knew.

I am all for gay, straight, swingers, asexuals, whatever RKBA rights. However, if I was gay I would not support "Pink Pistols". I would support the NRA, GOA, and other RKBA groups but the title pink pistols in and of itself is a slam on gays IMO. Might as well be "Fags with Mags" or "Queers and Seers".
What does pink have to do with being gay?
Am I the only one that is noticing this? If so, I apologize.

03shadowbob,

Or Dykes on Bikes?

(An existing group, btw -- well known in that community.)

Pink = gay? Only in some countries. In Russia, for example, "light blue" (голубой) is the term for gays. I don't much care for the origins of pink/black labels for gays/lesbians (concentration camp tags)...but Pink Pistols exists and we might as well support them.

Oleg, been a fan of your work for years, since I was a kid. Could go so far as to say it inspired me. Would be honored to help any way I can. Yes, I'm gay.

Oleg

I live in western, WI and would make the drive to MN if you need a guy. I happen to be hetro but could pretend for the camera.

It's my understanding that the inverted pink triangle in the Pink Pistol logo is derived from the pink triangle used by Nazis to designate a homosexual in their concentration camps. According to wikipedia, the inverted pink triangle, originally intended as a badge of shame, has become an international symbol of gay pride and the gay rights movement, and is second in popularity only to the rainbow flag. Thus, it is not derogatory to gays. In a very real and historical manner, it is their way of saying "Never again!"

From what I understand, lavender is the color most commonly used by gay men to recognize each other. Strangely, among the black gay community, snakeskin cowboy boots are symbols of recognition as well.

Anyone who is more fluent in non-verbal communication feel free to correct me on that.

"Unseen Symbols" and "Behavior Giveaways" are a pretty small part of the gay community. Some people follow them, most people dont, because gay and lesbians are pretty much the same as anyone else. I'm gay and don't follow any of that hokey crap. Again, theres no division in the way I act and the way a straight man acts, and the same reason stands for the majority of G/L, IMO.

I think most of the "Recognition" items, aside from the Pink Triangle and rainbow Flag, are used more by associations and groups, and smaller communities, and have been misrepresented as being individual things inherent to any given gay person. Of course I don't know if the person next to me is gay or not, I'm not a mind reader, and believe me, Non-Verbal giveways arent something that all of us or even most of us do.

"Omnisexual???"

Jeez, just when I figure out homosexual, bisexual and metrosexual, here comes omnisexual. I'm so far behind, I can't even see the guy in next-to-last place.

Heh - being set in the 'Doctor Who' universe, what with time and space travel being a normal happening, I guess they wanted a term for a guy that does not care if you're male, female, or ALIEN! ;)

Is it me, or did the two ladies in the Pink Pistols photo loan Mr. Barroman their gun?

Is this a popular model of firearm in the gay community?

Can someon please explain how this thread doesnt break this forum rule???

We have learned from bitter experience that discussions of abortion, religion and sexual orientation often degenerate into less-than-polite arguments or claims that "my God is better than your God". For this reason, we do not discuss such subjects on THR, and any threads dealing primarily with these subjects will be closed or deleted immediately. Threads which deal with other subjects, but which mention abortion, religion or sexual orientation as a side issue, may be allowed to continue, but will be closely scrutinized, and closed or deleted if they "cross the line".

Probably because the focus of this discussion isn't orientation advocacy but rather an effort to advance RKBA through a particular organization. We'd discuss Catholic marksmen or JPFO equally.

So far, I've only seen one post mentioning the "morality" issue, and that was very respectfully worded, so I don't see this thread crossing that line. We're not discussing sexual politics, and it's still related to promoting a firearms-related cause.

Heck, if you're in Atlanta, I'd volunteer, though I've been criticized as dressing like a "hobosexual," due to my complete and utter lack of fashion sense.

Oh, and brown holster with black shoes--big "no-no."

Pink Triangle

You're absolutely correct XavierBreath. The Pink Triangle became a symbol of power for gays for 'never again' aspect. [It's also the symbol for a publishing company that specializes in gay literature.] (in the same way that gays use the term 'queer' as in 'Queer Nation', a very activist group.) It's my belief the rainbow is more universal to the gay, lesbian, bi, transsexual, transgender community. They're still trying to find a good acronym.

The Pink Pistol itself is both a growth out of the "Pink Panthers", an activist group that started roughly the same time as the "Grey Panthers" the elder activists and a joke on the, "well, what color gun would you expect a gay to use? It's FABULOUS!"

BTW I'd love to pose, (being rather bearlike) but St. Lou is a bit far from you also. I'm one of only three known members of Pink Pistols in St. Lou area and ironically, we're all straight.
