My SA Loaded's night sights seem to be a lot fainter than they used to be. The rear ones are faint, and the front one isn't really visible. I had a friend look at them too, just to make sure it wasn't my old eyes getting worse. She couldn't see the front sight either.

I bought the gun new about 2 years ago; any ideas on why this would happen? Has this happened to anyone else?

Crack or flaw in the ampoules and the tritium leaking out. Not uncommon. Nothing to do but replace them. Some brands have a guarantee as long as the half life of the tritium, 11 years; so maybe you can get them changed on warranty.

This may sound stupid, but have you tried cleaning them?

(ducks)

I had a Trijicon on the front of my AK, and it started to get dimmer and dimmer. I was pissed, until I discovered that the muzzle brake had coated the sight in soot.

Springfield Armory warrants their products for the lifetime of the original owner.

The exception is 1911 Night-Sights produced after 01-01-2001.

After that date, the sights were produced by Trijicon and guaranteed for a period of 12 years from the date of production.
This is the half-life of the Tritium radioactive element.

Read all about it in your warranty card, or here:

Sounds like you need to send them in and get them replaced free!

I believe the night sights have a 10 year warranty. SA will replace them and since they are within warranty will also pay for the shipping.
Call their CS which is among the best in the industry.

I had the same thing on one of my SA guns.
Let us know what the warranty is when you call SA. One of mine is also getting dim, but I think I have had it in excess of 10 years.

that was my first thought as well, they might be dirty. i know my front sights on ns equiped guns and ones wihout get that way after there is a bit of carbon build up on there. since that base is covered, i say call sa and they will square you away, and if you talk nicely they will refinish the gun for you in armor kote free of charge! well they did for me anyway!

Thanks guys for all the replies. Guess I'll be calling Springfield. Glad to hear that they have great customer service; I haven't needed it so far.

Thanks again.
