I am looking for some insight into the case in DC soon to be before the Supreme Court. I only know, or have heard, that is appears to be somewhat of a monumental decision affecting most of us. Someone told me that his interpretation was that if SCOTUS rules "in favor" of the true meaning of the 2nd Ammendment that it would supercede all individual states interpretations and we would all be able to carry. Any links to info or your knowledge is appreciated. Thanks. As a sidebar.....I was, not long ago, on the other side of the issue. Don't give up on the "anti's" ....you never know when you will win one over to our side !!!

Rookie:

I believe that you are "somewhat overstating the possible impact of a USSC ruling in "our favor", at least I get this from reading your post. Actually, the "someone" you mentioned, is overstating, though a ruling favoring Individual Rights, that is Against existing D.C. law would be very nice to see/have.

The case is currently known as Heller v. D.C., originally it was Parker v. D.C.
There have been many, many posts on this matter, some including links that are worth looking at.

Current situation, as I understand same is as follows. I could be wrong on some things.

1. D.C. Court of Appeals ruled D.C.'s handgun ban unconstitutional.
2. The District appealed this ruling to USSC.
3. The court (USSC) accepted the appeal. Verbal arguments expected in February or March, more likely in March, with a ruling coming down in June, though this is NOT a given, as a PRO individual rights ruling could well really roil the 2008 elections and related campaign activity. Is the USSC totally isolated from politics, hell no.

Thanks....

I had actually read what little I saw and interpreted it as you, Alan, stated. My son-in-law got all riled up thinking this was the beginning of a whole new world.
Hey, we are servants of the state of New Jersey. It is horrible here!!! It is so unbelievable that in 38 ( I think) states you can carry....and the rest we are easy targets of the vermin that prowl our streets. Anyway,,,thanks for the responses.

Rookie - welcome, both to the site, and to "the right side" of the argument. The Supreme Court is an enigma wrapped up in a puzzle, so don't get your hopes up too much. The general wisdom (not mine :)) seems to feel that the rewording of the case by the Supremes will likely affirm an individual right, but will also argue a very narrow case aimed at the specific Heller v. D.C. question. Could I ask you if there was any "thing" that brought on your epiphany - to see guns as tools, and not evil (my take on your statement)?
