A guy with a CA address just bought an AR front pivot conversion pin from me on Gunbroker. Was it illegal for me to send it to him?

I don't know, but If I were you, I would have waited to find out BEFORE shipping it. California's state authorities are vengefully jealous of their prerogatives, and will most likely pursue you if A) they discover the sale; and B) it was illegal.

Unrelated, but it tells you something about the character of California state government...

We've been living in Texas for a little over 1-1/2 years now. We reregistered our vehicles in Texas when we moved. At the time we did so, the California registrations were still current. About a year ago, California tried to bill us for renewing the registrations there. We sent them all the proof that the vehicles were now currently registered in Texas, and that our residence is in Texas. We don't hear anything about it again for the past year, and figure that it's taken care of. Well, a couple of weeks ago, we received another bill for registration on one of the vehicles, and it was showing as over due from last year, plus this year's registration fee.

And all this was mailed to our Texas address. Those people are pure, unadulterated idiots, and we weren't even breaking the law. If they think you have broken the law, you might be in trouble.

Yes there are some AR's that are perfectly legal in Kali. They have certain restrictions and are basically neutured.

There are "off list" receivers, grips that are not "pistol grips", magazine releases that require a "tool" etc... Go to CalGuns.net for more info

As for your other question

Sorry but I do not know for sure.

Since there are legally owned ARs in California I can't imagine it is illegal to sell a spare part in that state, especially a part that does not "convert" the rifle to an illegal configuration.

IANAL and all that crap.... :)

No parts are illegal. You can ship any and all parts to someone in California, no problem, except for NFA stuff which has the usual pile of restrictions.

AR's, except for a short list of particular lower-receiver brands and model numbers, are legal if configured the right way.

I built one last year. It's perfectly legal.

NukemJim is on the right track. There are many variations of the AR platform which are perfectly legal in CA.

Examples include:

This U-15 stock with a detachable magazine and no evil features.

This Monsterman grip with no evil features.

This BulletButton Magazine release with a 10 round 'fixed' magazine and all the evil features you want.

FYI, it's also legal to own, use, and repair high-cap magazines in CA (in registered AWs or rifles with no evil AW features), you just can't buy, sell, import, manufacture, give, lend, or trade them.

At least that's my understanding of it.

here is my AR

live in Orange County

note, a fixed mag weapon is an "assualt rifle" if it holds more then 10 rnds.

you can put anything you want in a rifle with a detachable magazine

Parts is parts.
NOTHING in Ka law says different. There are a bunch of biased vendors who won't ship here here...

I have friends w/ ARs in CA... Before they were illegal the gov ran commercials telling everyone to "register" their "assault rifles, or sporting rifles w/ assault features" but I don't know a single person that did that... I assume that if you did "register" it, that you could still legally have a normal AR...

Who knows, I got the F out of there! :banghead:

WOW that is the most rediculous looking thing in the word. I supose because of the lack of the pistol grip the .223 round is less leathal. I shall never live in CA!

No, it is not illegal to sell P A R T S to someone with a California address.

If your customer has a registered California Assault Weapon, it is perfectly legal for him to upgrade it.

If your customer has an "Off List Lower" which he used to assemble a fixed magazine rifle, it is perfectly legal for him to do so. Likewise, he could legally assemble and possess a detachable magazine rifle that does not have any of the other "evil" attributes (pistol grip, vertical foregrip, flash hider, grenade launcher, folding stock, or collapsible stock).

Be sure to vote the Democrats in your state out of office so they don't bring that foolishness to your state too.

Uh, legal AR? --Mini-14?;)

Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

You folks in the PRK have my sympathy. Although we had multiple opportunities to move to your state, silly gun laws and tax policies were huge, important "negatives".

I was born in CA and my parents grew up there...don't even get me started gun laws are the least of their problems.

hide yo gun in California

Everytime I carry in California mostly in the san francisco area I have the perfect hiding place for my gun. I keep a small north american 22 inside a boiled ham sandwich. I put lots of mustard and lettuce on the sandwich and long pickles. I wrap it in clear saran wrap so it is easly visible. Most of the cops in San Francisco eat boiled eggs raisins nuts and yogert. I also lay around some gay magazines for them to steal. A book or two on crossdressing is always in my trunk when I go there. If you leave the Heat something to steal they usually wont mess with you.
