A friend and I are preparing to reload for our 9mms and .45s. We purchased bulk Winchester bullets. I'm having trouble finding load data for Winchester pistol bullets. Does anyone know where to find it?

Sticky?

This ? comes up so much, the answer should be made into a sticky. The key to using a generic bullet is to start at the recommended STARTING load found in your reloading manual for the same weight bullet, with the same nose configuration. IE, hollow point, FMJ,(full metal jacket), SWC,(semi wad cutter).

Of course there's differences in the jacket material, thickness of said jacket and hardness of the core lead. These differences CAN make higher or lower pressures from one manufacturer to another. BUT by starting at the low end of any loading manual, you can work up carefully to max while watching for pressure signs.

I use a lee manual, or the online manual of the powder manufacturer, start at the minimum, or reduce 10% if none is given (H110/W296 being the exception). work up from there, settling at the most accurate load that functions perfectly. Most of the ideal loads are about 5% reduced from max for me. I load mostly win FMJ and berrys or rainier plateds in 9mm with HS-6, and 45 with bullseye, both are 100% reliable and about as accurate as can be had from a variety of pistols in both calibers.

Thanks for the information. But one more dumb question. When I compare the loadings in the various manuals, all of them have different OALs for their bullets. Would I just load to SAMMI OAL specs or just pick an OAL of similar bullet made by some other manufacturer?

You'll need to experiment. Different bullet shapes can feed differently.

In 9mm, I generally load 115gr FMJ to 1.130-1.135. I've been using Winchester FMJs for a while now. The last batch of WWB I measured came in around 1.150, IIRC.

Thanks. I'm just accustomed to loading to fairly specific standards for a given bullet. I was a little nervous about loading to a standard for a generic bullet. Thanks again.

emb: Although I agree you should work up loads anytime you change a component, I don't find Win bullets require any extra special consideration.

I load the following:

.45 ACP - Win 230gr FMJ at 1.260"
9mm - Win 115gr JHP at 1.120"
9mm - Win 124gr FMJ at 1.150"

Good luck!
