From the forum link above, it looks like $42 in Jasper County as of last July.

Actually, it's not quite the same price statewide. It varies between $39 and $47. Some of the portions of the background investigation are optional (at the discretion of the judge) and carry extra cost. Additionally, some counties may not charge for fingerprinting, but most do.

Give yourself some extra time, as it appears that fingerprints are not taken at the courthouse, but at the Sheriff's office down the street.

Call your county's office and talk to a real person, or listen if they give you the recorded instructions on the phone.

As Mojo-jo-jo says, each county varies and the fees are often a total of two or three separate things. Happy's link should give you a good basic heads-up.

Find out exactly what you need and come prepared; it's not a huge hassle but no sense doing it twice.

(Oh, and be prepared to wait about 2-3 months beyond the "mandatory 60-day wait period")

Just google jasper county gun permit and you find all you need on the county website, besides location cost and what form of payment, it will tell you the hours also, in gwinnett they only take fingerprints till 1030 am and i had to go back the next morning which was a pita

I know i paid 40-something for mine last year, as best i recall it was $49. It took me longer to find the right office at the harris county courthouse than i spent inside completing the paperwork once there, then a 3 minute drive to the sherrifs dept. for the prints and background check,which took less than 15 minutes. My license was in my mailbox 48 hours later. By far, the fastest,most efficient dealing with a govt. entity that i've ever experienced. By the way, this was exactly one day after the virginia tech tragedy.

Did they require your Social Security Number and employment information on the application?

They got my SSN,of course, but oddly, the application also asked how long i've been at my present job. Also, while cleaning out my car this a.m. i stumbled across my CCW reciept, it was for $49 bucks.No complaints,though. My Florida permit cost almost 3 times that ( incl. applicant supplied passport photos, instructor fee,etc.) and took a couple months rather than 48 hours.

mil-dot - i'm with ya on the fl permit, i went through all the money and class and trouble to get mine only to move to GA 6 months later...

Your SSN and job description is not required.

There was recently a lawsuit in Georgia over this, Camp v. Cason, in which the pro-gun side won. As ctdonath said, This information is now NOT required and you can not be denied a permit for failure to disclose this information. The form should say "optional" next to the SSN and employment info fields. Probate courts are now required to only use the state standardized form.

That's why I asked. Just making sure that particular judge is following the law.

First, they collect $25.00 and make you fill out the paperwork that they send to the GBI. Then they give you a kit that you must take to the local sherrif's department so that you can be properly fingerprinted. Then you take your fingerprint cards back to the magestrate's office, and they send the whole package to the GBI. In about 4 months time your ccw permit will arrive, and they will fail to call you. You will go an additional 4 months until you realize that you need to go to the court for something, and then you will remember about the whole ccw thing. You will ask the clerk about this matter, and she will go and find your ccw, then fingerprint your trigger finger, ask for another $20.00, laminate the permit and then try to put every ounce of her 95lb. frame into notorizing it, and your good to go for 5 years! Congrats!

Got mine in Dekalb. Other than problems with the fingerprint machine reading my prints, i had no problems. I did not have to transfer any paperwork other than my first trip to the PD to get printed. When my prints came back from GBI as unreadable, they called me and scheduled an appointment to come down. They even put me in front of a line of new police recruits to get it taken care of. The permit arrived at my home 60 days from the date of my prints going thru the second time.
