Back from the range, and I cannot believe my eyes. I just shot the Walther P99 (9mm) for the first time and got 2.75 inch groups at 25 yards. The ammo was Federal 115gr JHP. :what:

I would like to touch base and get some advice from THR on the Walther P99. How are these pistols in the long run?

Thanks.

I have no idea what the round count is between my 2 p99's but they're my favorite guns and haven't had a problem yet.

I've got two of them: a full-sized first-generation P99 and a P99C AS model. They are superb handguns: accurate, flawless, wonderfully reliable. I've put hundreds of rounds through each without so much as a hic-cup. Walther has been making quality firearms for decades. You owe it to yourself to give them a try.

Yes, the AS trigger is still available, but because of it popularity, its hard to find sometimes. I have a First generation P99 .40 with the AS trigger, It has been flawless.

I am also interested in buying Walther. I dealer in Lahore Pakistan has Walther P99 QA model. How much he is asking is an other issue, but I want to know if some one has QA and how is it different than others, since what I have read on internet doesn't really make sense. It's the same issue I had with DP51 Fast Action, which I only came to understand when I actually handled one.
Thanks

I have a P99QA in .40, haven't had a chance to shoot it near as much as I'd have liked (though I don't plan on carrying it, so it's no big deal) but I've had zero problems with mine.

Mrs.Rotorflyr enjoys shooting it as well. :D

Firepower, as I've never shot an AS trigger, I can't really tell you the difference between them.
You might want to check out Walther Forums for more info.

The Quick Action (QA) is a DAO gun. The trigger pull will always be the same.

The Anti-Stress (AS) is a traditional DA/SA gun. The first trigger pull will be heavier and the second pull will be lighter. You have to decock the gun to make the trigger go back into the heavier position.

Walther P-99 9mmNATO/German Police surplus

I saw a new in box(NIB) model P-99 at a local Bass Pro Shop for only(get this); $477.00. That looks like a great deal :D for a NIB Walther. I also saw a NIB or was it used but VG condition German police surplus P-99 9mmNATO with the older DA only set up. That runs $500-600.00USD, www.gunsamerica.com .
The police surplus would be my first choice but the Walther P-99 from Bass Pro Shop is closer. Why Walther/S&W ended the DA only P-99 design is a complete mystery to me unless it was a $$$ issue.

Thanks Tecumesh.
Now if I had the option to buy one: Should I go with USP or P99? That is the question I am facing.

Yes but no. There is actually a true DAO version of the P99, the QA is a partially cocked consistent trigger pull, glock style.

I absolutely love P99s. I might even prefer them over my Glock. I wish I had shot a P99 before buying my first handgun, I'm pretty sure I would have chose the Walther ;)

Do you get second-strike capability with the Walther?

As long as its not the QA model, yes.

Does anyone have opinions of the DAO version?
It would be my last choice, the AS version has a really nice trigger if you can shoot DA/SA. If not, then I'd go QA.

I chose the walther over a glock :what:

Walther P-990 DA only/WaltherAmerica.com

I checked around and the Walther P-99 model that is a total DAO/DA only(full trigger pull for every shot) is the older P-990 design.
Walther's US website; www.waltheramerica.com only lists the "anti-stress" and "quick action" models of the .40/9mmNATO P-99s. I'm not quite sure what the differences are but still would prefer a DA only model.
For Walther to drop the options for the US market is a real pisser .
I still may buy the local Walther P-99 for $477.00USD. I'm not sure if it's the QA or AS type P-99 9mmNATO.

:D

I super long, heavy trigger of DAO is probably not something U wanbt - it's like the old DAO triggers of the older semi autos with an external hammer.

The QA trigger is more Glock/XD like - U would probably want that.

There is a DAO model (the P990 is discontinued) - but they are pretty rare in the USA.
