Could you please help my friend & I settle an argument and agree with me that with precise*perfect* shot placement and within ~100yds. the .30-30 in a repeating rifle could be used on the majority if not the entirety of North American large game.

Yup, and has been doing it for over 100 years too.

It is my favorite. Can be used for anything, although a little light for Grizzly or Brown bear. Fine for Black bear.

The best for most Deer hunting, obviously not a bean field rifle. More Elk and Moose were taken by the ole' 30-30, back then, not now.

I know guys that varmint hunt with theirs too.

And it is a pretty good defense carbine too.

Everyone should have at least one 30-30.

These are two different mulies taken with my 30-30. One shot through each buck's chest caused very quick demise.

I toppled my first 3 elk with Grandad's 30-30 carbine when I was kid growing up in Park County, Wyoming. They didn't get away either.

30-30 is a keeper!

The 30-30 will take anything in North America if the shooter does his job and doesn't take shots at ranges not appropriate for the caliber.

had a Marlin 336; sold it to pay for a move; want one back; got a .357 magnum lever action that has my attention right now, but .30-30 is fun:evil:

Nobody would argue whether you could kill something under a hundred yards with a .308, .30-06, or .300 Winnie mag. Same projectile in a 150 grain bullet, the others just get there a little faster. There is not much advantage in greater velocity under 100 hundred yards if the bullets are all hitting the same place.

On some hunting show a week or two ago I saw a guy shoot a buffalo right behind the ear with 30-30 and dropped it like a ton of bricks from 40-50 yards.

Just be cause the guns that are chambered for the 30-30 appear to be "small".... the round is quite capable of it's purpose and has been for a LONG LONG time.

More game has been shot and killed with a 30-30 than any other round in american history.
However more game has been shot and lost than the 30-30

Ask this guy what he thinks of my 30-30 :D

There is an old saying......

The 30 30 has killed more deer than any other cartridge ever developed.

And some say, lost more too.

Chose your shot, and place well. Use it for the range it was designed for and it will work well. The previous posters have said it better than I could.

And some say, lost more too.

Heard that one too. When it comes to losing game, it usually has a lot more to do with the shooter than the cartridge or gun.

Seeing as some think that it has lost so much game, try to find someone to blame the cartridge for THEIR lost game.

Go figure.

Cast bullets and some unique powder and it make a decent small game rifle Too!:D:D:D
Since I am now old enough to have out grown magnumitis a 30/30 is now one of my two main rifles

not only can it be used to harvest all north american game,I'd bet my bottom dollar that it has been used to kill just about every species of game on the continent

You know I have always wanted one. I have always viewd them as the rocky of rifles. Tuff as hell and will putem down if they aint carefull. I think I am gonna get my son one for his first rifle.
