Dear Friend, Thank you for contacting me about gun laws and the Second Amendment. Iappreciate hearing from you on this important issue. Americans broadlyagree that guns must be kept from those who may pose a threat, and that therights of legitimate hunters and sportsmen should be protected. We must work to ensure that guns do not fall into the hands of criminals orthe mentally ill through an effective background check system. We also haveto strike a reasonable balance between public safety and sportsmen's rights. I will continue to work for effective gun laws, including reinstatement ofthe assault weapons ban that the last Congress allowed to expire, andeffective law enforcement. We have warned people in the free states repeatedly.
Anything coming out of Chicagoland that is politically oriented is NOT GOOD!

Okay, somebody needs remedial U.S. Constitution. I think it was Tom Gresham on "Guntalk" who said "If a politician starts talking about hunter's rights, it means he's either trying to hide that he's anti 2'nd amendment, or he doesn't have any idea what he's talking about.
 
Here we go again on the ban of assault weapons....when will they figure out that a very small percentage of crimes in the U.S. involve an assault weapon.

But not the rights of citizens to self defense from enemies foreign and domestic?
I fear Obama more than Hillarity.
 
Well if you actually know what an assault weapon is, ie select fire, intermediate cartridge, etc, how many crimes are committed with one that has been legally obtained? Are there any? I don't know but I would imagine it to be ridiculously small. Why is it so hard to get people to understand what an assault rifle is?

Aparently this is what the founding father's had intended.

2nd amendment: The right to duck hunt on Saturday's shall not be infringed, unless within 500 feet of a structure, using lead shot or anything of a bore larger than .50"

I'm going to go throw up now.

According to everything I have read from our founding Fathers,they wanted a 2nd ammendment exactly for those that pose a threat... That was the intent, to keep the Gov in check.

Don't sell this guy short! ANY politician that states his position on ANYthing gun control is stating it exactly how his handlers are telling him to! There isn't one word in that reply that wasn't scrutinized and massaged to be just how he and his staff want it to be!

Your totally missing the point. So called Assault Weapons are owned by firearms enthusiasts more than the general population and more than the criminal population. An AWB is nothing more than a way to increase government power at the expense of a constituency they hate (lawful gun owners).

Its not about crime control, its about counting coup on your enemy.
 
Woody, one could argue the fact that it is sheer ignorance that would even attempt to ban a bayonet lug. That'd be like banning black shirts. 2nd, every inch you give is an inch you lose. It is VERY difficult to get any ground back with these nut cases. 3rd, just because someone else is going to say it, what part of shall not be infringed don't you understand? ;)

I wish we could say "The people called, you ARE going to abide by the 2nd amendment, whether you want to or not." At the same time, I realize that takes a lot of balls on ALL of our parts, and I can't even say for myself that I'd be able to stand up for it in a way that really needs to be done.

Certainly does just skate over the issues at hand. I know it was NOT EVEN CLOSE to what txgolf probably asked him about in his letter. It was pretty much Barak's platform stance with a personalized, "Dear friend" opening.
 
Man!, It's fine for us to comment here on this thread but I think we should all reinforce what the second amendment really says. just get everybody to send him a letter. Just straight talk guys, nothing crazy. Blitz
 
Obama is a lying hypocrite. He says he defends the Second Amendment but the truth is he is has worked very hard to destroy it.

Are we allowed political discussions, now? When I posted a political comment a few weeks ago it was deleted and I got a stern warning from a moderator not to do it again.
