Headline News: A tongue in cheek, non-profane satire of the way in which the Huffington Post is moderated, which did not violate The Huffington Posts TOS, gets a regular commenter - who has been posting at their site for over a year - banned. Is this what liberal/progressive tolerance really looks like? Tolerance for THEIR views and ideas, but not for the views and ideas of others?

Ok, here is the real story behind the anti-gun hypocrite mentioned here:

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=343480

The anti-gun poster "Solitude" is actually my pro-gun roommate. He signed up for The Huffington Post and after no less than 5 attempts at posting pro-gun comments, all of which failed to pass moderation, he decided to embrace the identity of an anti-gun troll/hypocrite just to see if he could get his posts to show up. He was quickly accepted and given warm adoration by anti-gun poster Kelli and found The Huffington Post allowing him to post his anti-gun non-sense and ad hominem attacks with near immunity. We decided to go with it.

We contacted most of our fellow pro-gun/pro-rights supporters (who we could find email address for) and let them in on our little "experiment" in anti-gun hypocrisy. This continued until we all began to have any posts the Huffington nazis disagreed with (even when they didn't violate the posted TOS) modded out by said nazis. After Solitude had a post modded, he called the modderators "jackasses" and as a result, was banned and had of his posts removed. Seeing this, I posted a sarcastic criticism of the HuffPo mods, refing to them as God-like over-lords and, even though I didn't violate their TOS, I was also banned and had all of my past posts removed.

Here is a link to the site we started when this experiment began:

Hopefully, our work will be continued here at our new website, "The AntiHuffington Post" (keep checking back to see when we get up and running):

I am not surprised Zen21Tao

Hey Zen,

I am not surprised. I was doing a web search on my arch enemy on Amazon.com, fascist author Sam Harris ["The End of Faith"] and found an article by him on the web at guess-what-newspaper? The Huffington Post

At the time, I thought; "Gee, what paper prints this anti-religious, biased and irrational kind of a rant?"

This was all about a week ago. Now I see your posting about The Huffington Post and it confirms my suspicions about the clear bias in that rag.

Fella's;

Question time: Is the Huffington Post an actual newspaper, with an interactive website, or is it just a website? If it's an actual in-print newspaper, what's it's market area? In other words, I'm trying to find out if this bit of media is just another un-reality based byteshop where like minds hang together, or a supposedly accredited AP/UPI/Reuters source taking in advertising dollars and providing community service?

or a supposedly accredited AP/UPI/Reuters source taking in advertising dollars and providing community service?
Taking in advertising dollars? Check.
Providing community service? Uh...Yeah. Let me get back to you on that.

I believe they are just another blog; Basically just a festering boil on the a$$ of the Internet.

It's not a newspaper. It is a website started by conservative turned liberal activist, Arianna Huffington. It's a place where liberals go to stroke each other's egos. It was set up as a liberal talk fest, but they "say" they are open minded We all know what that means in liberal speak. They are open to differing opinions as long as those opinions aren't different from what liberals believe. Kind of like how they believe in free speech as long as it is liberal speech.

I wish the liberals would say what they really mean:

"You're not allowed to think like that!!!"

In Virginia, anti-gun protesters do.

I remember one incident at a protest where a young person who was attending the protest was talking to a man who was open-carrying, and was interested in hearing what he had to say...an older witch of a woman yanked her back screaming "Don't talk to them!"

Guess they want to keep their "followers" in line, and not have the chance of their eyes opening up to reality...

U P D A T E .....

I am back in and able to post using the handle "Tao21Zen." Yes, that is correct, these brain trusts allowed me to simply switch the first half and last half of my original handle, and come back in.

If that isn't enough, I was also approved and have been able to (up to this point at least) post under the handle "fukhuffpo." I guess we really are dealing with a liberal MENSA crowd over there. :D

I think this was a dumb idea. If you can't tell they were hypocrites from the word go, what good will "proof" do you.

I abhor dishonesty and don't think that it is helpful to our cause to misrepresent ourselves on other people's boards. Why would they even care anyway? Their minds are already made up and they refuse to apply rational thought and logic to their position so showing them as hypocrites and censors and then revealing yourselves as liars to them really only sends one message that they will understand: you lied to them. They will excuse all their other poor actions on this premise.

By deleting all the old posts and showing the heavy moderation the only thing you have proven is that they will go to any measure to shut you out of their own personal massage sessions. They are not interested in your POV because they will not think long enough to consider it. If they were interested in a different POV they would come here and seek one out.

You're not allowed to think like that!!!

It's not so much that you're not allowed to think like that, it's more that you're not supposed to. And if you happen to think like that, you're clearly suffering from false consciousness and need to be reeducated.

For further reference, see articles on H. Marcuse and his concept of "Liberating Tolerance."

Strong work Tao21zen zen21tao and also solitude, you're secretly pro-gun postingly anti-gun roomate, and good luck finding a new place to live now that the huffington post has evicted you!

"And if you'd put that much time/effort into contacting an opinion maker?"

Well bogie, a lot of people form their opinion about gun control from what they read on the Brady Blog and Huffpo. Sad, but true.

We've won over a convert/fense-sitter or two that we know of, and I'm sure a lot who have never done anything but lurk. Look at the huge number of lurkers that THR has.

This is Kelli's farewell address:

"shedances
NOTE TO MODERATORS (3/11/2008) ~

I am highly dissatisfied with the manner in which the Huffington Post has been moderating ~ or rather, NOT moderating ~ the Gunnut "trolls" onboard ... of which there are several, including (but not limited to) mike101, thirdpower, molonlabe, sneaky, mark0, dmeadows, melodyl, longhorn, zen21tao, dvcrsn, ladyshooter, kaveman, and msorgy. They resort to posting abusive, potentially libelous, harassing, nearly-always manipulative comments directed at gun-control advocates & organizations. They are the 'ugly of the uglies,' I'd say.

Do me the courtesy, HP, of deleting (immediately & permanently) ALL of my posts. You cannot seem to prevent the gun nuts from creating a cesspool here. Moreover, it's abundantly clear to me, after your recent ban of a fine gun control supporter named "Solitude" & your continued allowance of (malicious type) posters ~ such as mike101 & molonlabe ~ to continue their personal attacks on gun-control advocates unabated ... that you folks know little about moderation.

Also, my sincere apologies to former poster, Solitude. I'm sorry I was not online to help. Good luck!!!

I want no further association with the Huffington Post.

Kelli"

Hey, I made the top of her list! WOW! That's almost as good as being at the bottom of the Brady Campiagn's list of states with good "Common Sense Gun Laws".

Now tell me that wasn't worth the effort. :)

I definitely appreciate being remembered by that leading light to hypocrites (kelli shewhodancesaroundthetruth)--and I definitely appreciate the irony that shedanced out. I am also glad Zen explained solitude:evil::what::D:D

I'd say it was worthwhile just based on the fact you got Kelli aka shedances to quit huffpo. she pops up MANY places besides there and is the most illogical, insane, unthinking anti's I have EVER seen. Also, I find her disgust with so called "personal attacks" against anti-gun people HILARIOUS considering that is what 90% or her commments anywhere usually consist of, directed at the pro-gun side.Pot, meet kettle....:D

:evil::neener:Fox--I am not sure which will do the pro RKBA side the most good--Kelli being quiet or her shovelling her usual pile of ad hominem road apples (Zen or Mike--if you would be so kind to relay that message to the huffpo regulars--although I am sure they realize how much good all of Kelli's illogical attacks and hyperventilating over everything Paul writes does our side).

Look On The Brightside...

....to be banned by the HP means as an advocate of the 2A you've finally "arrived".

Just don't let it go to your head and start to do something stupid. Like picking up hookers via your cell phone

I had actually never heard of this site until now. The name Arianna Huffington was vaguely familiar to me, but I had to look it up to find out why. Anyhoo, I swung over there to see what kinds of lovely scribblings I could find. After a bit, I came across this nice bit o'work:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-tonello/217-years-later_b_91170.html

It has all the symptoms of the nanny state "logic": When you first read it, it seems to make sense after a fashion, right up until you start applying some logic to it and then you realize how neatly the issues get deflected.

For those not inclined to read the crap, the writer's opening point is the classic line regarding the definition of insanity as doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results. He goes on to expound upon this by asserting that the thing we do over and over is resist gun control, with the result being the glut of mass shootings. Thus we must all be insane, as we expect a different result without just banning all those evil guns.

Of course, never does it occur to this induhvidual to point this logic in another direction. Clearly, he doesn't see that we've removed guns from more and more places, all the while watching these shootings continue. Yet he wishes to assert that continuing the pattern by throwing more laws into the mix will yield a different result. Let's conveniently ignore the fact that these shootings are happening inside the fantasy-world "gun free zones". What we need are more gun-free zones! After all, they work so well now!

Of course, then we move into the usual emotional pleadings, the invocation of the now childless mother, of the innocent dead. Oh and then the final head-in-the-sand proclamation that we should all realize that we're not going to be needing a militia any time soon. That's when I knew for sure that this yahoo was living in a different world from me.

Too bad that, as this thread indicates, there can't be any useful debate in the comments to poke holes in these arguments. Can't have that- the only way to stick with indefensible positions is to avoid the necessity of defending them.

*sigh* Off the soapbox, for now...

Let's Not And Say We Did

Let us not get into chucking rocks at someone else's private blog or forum.

It's their business and they run it their way.

This forum is our business and we run it our way.

When we show up and hurl wooden shoes into their gears, they kick us out.

When they show up here and fling clogs at us, we do likewise.

We exist here to promote responsible firearms use and ownership.

They've got some other purpose.

We have no interest in imposing our purpose on them.

That is all.
