Gun supplies drying up?

Around here in the indoor ranges are take a number and wait on the weekends, used self-defense guns and ccw guns are scarce, and reloading supplies are low inventory.

Decent old revolvers are nonexistant unless you look real hard, and not many used guns advertised by local sellers.

My local shop told me he can't keep budget ARs in stock at all.

.223 and .308 ammo is flying off the shelf.

The only used long guns I have seen lately is old C&R stuff and deer shotguns.

If I had to guess people are realizing that bad times are coming and stocking up on beans beer & bullets.

We've got folks announcing that they're not gonna vote. We've got folks announcing that they're gonna write in protest candidates.

Congrats, guys - you're giving them what they want.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but as I understand it, there is no pro-2nd Amendment candidate among the three that are leading in the election. I read somewhere that a gun rights organization, don't remember which one, gave John McCain an F- score on gun rights. So whether Hillary, Obama, or McCain wins the election, we are equally screwed.

Furthermore, all three favor amnesty and more immigration. That is what will destroy our Western civilization, democracy, and all of our rights - not just gun rights. There will be no more respect for the "white men with guns" who founded this country and gave us our freedoms.

I think writing in a protest candidate is the best idea. At least it will put whoever wins on notice that they do not have the support of a very large segment of the population. It may also help to promote the growth of a true pro-Constitution opposition party.

We're not giving "them" what they want. They have put themselves in a position to take what they want, with or without popular support.

I think that if McCain's in office, he's going to get a few "come to jeezus" meetings with Republican leadership. The president is not going to buck the overall party platform.

On the other hand, if Hilbama's in office, well, the Democrats DEFINITELY want another assault weapons ban.

Go there on Saturday and tell me what you see... I doubt that a Wednesday afternoon at a gun range would count as their rush hour.

I don't know about the rest of the country but in Oklahoma somebody is buying guns. last couple of gun shows I've been to were elbow to elbow and people were leaving with stuff.
Also, in the last 6 years over 71,000 oklahomans have recieved their concealed weapons permits. Some of them folks probably bought their guns new.
Recent stats -
2005, 10,450 permits issued
2006, 9,951 permits issued
2007, 16,426 permits issued (18,451 applications, they got a little back logged maybe).
Somebody is buying guns, if only 25% of the 2007 new permit applicants in Oklahoma bought a new gun that would be a bit more than 4600 guns.

Ron Paul and Huckabee won't be running in the general, so don't worry about those votes getting leached off. The place we are likely to get screwed is people who just stay home because they don't like any of the options and are tired of holding their nose. I can't blame them for feeling that way.

As for the next ban, I think you guys are over-stating the case a bit. IF the Dems in Congress are willing to tackle it (don't count on it), they will never get enough votes to pass it if its too extreme. There is ZERO chance of a ban getting passed without a grandfather clause. None. Zippo. Not all Dems are gun grabbers.

Well, I sure hope you are right. It will be up to Congress to stop a Draconian AWB.

I don't trust McCain. Even George Bush said he would sign an AWB if one landed on his desk. Clinton's AWB was not renewed thanks to Congress, not because of Bush.

Republican presidents have never been the strong supporters of gun owners that they could be, at least in modern times. Even Ronald Reagan stated near the end of his term that he did not believe private citizens should have the right to own assault rifles.

scurtis_34471 is right.
Bogie's myopic, one-dimensional, rabid name calling to the contrary, Obama and Hillary are not joined at the hip. Hilbama indeed. Stop the rhetoric please!

I think the Democrats have much much, more important things to do than come by and take Bogie's guns. The country sucks due not to Clinton but due to Bush/Bush/Bush/Bush. Particularly the last two. In my view, George W. may go down in history as absolutely the worst president our United States has ever had. If that is true, "anyone but Bush" is a perfectly valid response and almost guarantees a better president than we've had for the past two terms, especially considering the fact that Bush stole both elections from mamby pamby Democrats who wouldn't fight for it. Well on that score, Hillary wins. She will fight for it to the last tick of the clock. Not sure this attitude will promote any "bringing together" (a phrase that has been forever stained and destroyed by President Bush).

Health care, international reputation, coalitions with others on global warming, recognition and acceptance of scientific findings, getting rid of excessive taxation on the middle class and adding it back to the upper class, education (being sure that "No Child Left Behind" is left behind), etc. There are so many issues way more important than gun restrictions. Especially because congress is closer attuned to our attitude than the President. I don't think our local representatives could avoid feeling the heat if they started down an excessive gun control path.

On the other hand, how could a so-called "constitutional scholar" (Obama) misread the second amendment (not the nineth, not the seventh, but the second so badly as to think gun freedom is about hunting or target shooting? I think congress will dope-slap that idiot thought right out of him.

Go there on Saturday and tell me what you see... I doubt that a Wednesday afternoon at a gun range would count as their rush hour.

Well, that's certainly fair enough. My thoughts were, though, that I have NEVER seen the place that deserted, and I've been there on other [pick any weekday] late-mornings, and usually the place is crawling with shoppers and shooters on their early lunch break, and corresponding staff to assist.

The parking lot was almost empty yesterday, the range was slow, and I was one of three shoppers who were entertaining the three or four OBSERVABLE (there could have been more) staff members quite nicely.

So, that's my story, and I'm s-s-s-sticking to it.

Q

Everything you cited is why so many of us support Bush. Proudly.

You support Bush in part because you're against the recognition and acceptance of scientific findings?

Doesn't that sort of destroy the whole argument that the RKBA community has the facts on our side, when you claim that a great deal of us are against scientific research?

mcbrides inst a shop i frequent. They never have what i hope to find when im shopping. sportsmans warehouse in round rock has been out of Remington and winchester 45 acp cartridges and just bullets(i reload) for about a month. 45 brass has been out of stock for months. Cabelas went thorugh a phase where pickings were slim. Walmart rarely has what im looking for either. I usually have to fill my weekly prescription at 2 or 3 different places.

though last week i was able to get my whole prescription at cabelas(but i paid out the nose for everything).

HK G3, so... you voted for Gore didn't you? Scientific research huh... Is global warming why my area has received more ice/snow in the past 5 years than the past 50? Do greenhouse gases cause global warming, or does the sun influence it more?

Did Al Gore invent the internet?

This could go on and on, but I don't want to argue with a "Senior Member" who has been here barely over a month and is trying to troll.

going back to the OPs question: I believe it's due to supply and location. I've been looking for two weeks for a particular shotgun. Every distributor in the US is sold out, or on backorder. In addition, I've been looking for several AK drums. They are now going for $250-400 a piece when they were $149 last year.

There's a lot of things changing in light of a possible AWB or anti-pres. Hi-cap mags, drums, and certain rifles have doubled in price since last year. Bulk ammunition is sold out for several calibers at the places I normally buy.

All said and done, I think this year will be an excellent market for the gun sellers, and a hard market for buyers. (Kind of like the house market a couple years back)

Factory orders down, business owners playing it safe for fear of the recession. Also some companies have no idea how to forecast in uncertain times.

All of local gun shows around here (MO, AR, and KS) have been going gangbusters since first of the year. Even at midday Saturday the entrance lines are still backed up around the buildings.

Today I took several cheap 22 rifles to a local show to sell. Within two minutes of entering the hall a buyer stopped me. He didn't ask any questions or really even look at the rifles... he just started pulling out $100 bills. It had to be the easiest sale I've ever made.
