Okay, slightly tongue-in-cheek and in the great tradition of what gun to buy threads here on THR. If the 2nd is upheld in DC by the end of June like we all expect (hope), what handgun do you want to buy before the surge of DC gun buyers drys up the stock of every gun distributor around? Let's face it, there has to be a huge pent up demand for handguns since they have been banned for 36 years.

Let's just have fun with this and leave the discussions of the rules that will likely be imposed by DC to purchase a gun to the legal and activisim forums.

Personnally, I need to buy a 9mm to start teaching my son how to shoot a centerfire handgun, and for my wife to use. I am leaning towards a Beretta 92 or possibly an XD. I have a Beretta 96 and it is a great gun but is a little to much for a beginning shooter.

How ironic. I'm weighing the choice between another XD9 (I have the 5" Tactical version) or a Beretta 92. I'm leaning towards the Beretta 92 with lots of extra magazines.

maybe a nice little single action .45, or a not so little buntline. It seems like i should be an assault-something, just because, but i dont really want one.

Just a joke here folks.. the perfect Washington DC gun

...

First and foremost George, congrats to you and your fellow Washington DC law abiding gun enthusiasts.. for real.

Along with, finally, where it all gets messed up for the entire country, where it begins, and should end ,(so poetic), may I suggest this Glock over the guns you are now considering. As one of its best advantages is its one shot, or near miss's, takes care of everything, BG, Congress, the entire mess there in DC, which would allow the rest of us to have a new start and a chance at getting it right from, and with, a new, fresh, start..

Again folks, just a joke here.. and MODS, can delete IF the humor somehow is lost by any..

The perfect Glock for ya:

Anyone who does not appreciate the mechanisc of Glock is ignorant of handguns and should not be allowed to handle one...how is that for a joke:)

But this is what I want to buy before July 1:

Beretta Inox
Glock 18
Glock 34
HK P30 (If I am convinved that its substantially diffferent than P2000)
SW .44 in 2"
SW .38 Spl in 2"
DE in 50AE

S&W mdl 625, or mdl 625JM.
I could easily change that to a mdl 25-2 (I think it is) S&W in .45acp.

I have a Beretta 92 and I must say it is one of my favorites. I do not have an XD9 but I do have the XD45 compact. I love that one just about as much as my 92. In my experience both have been extremely reliable. I have put far more rounds through my 92 at one time than my XD but that is mostly because the ammo of the 92 is free for me. As far as shooting the 92 is extremely comfortable especially after I put the Hogue grips on.
Of all my guns these are the two that I would trust my life with. I am sorry this probably doesn’t help much but either way you go I don’t think you will be disappointed. :)

I love my new S&W M&P9.
17+1 rounds of HP goodness sure warms the heart.

You might consider taking a gander at the Walther PPS in either 9mm or .40 S&W -- if, in fact, you can locate one. They are relatively new and much in demand as a result, at present, but certainly worth a look-see. It's a fine range gun, a wonderful choice for concealed carry, and perhaps best of all, it's a real Walther and not a parent-company/Umarex creation.
