Is there anything wrong with owning an antique launching mechanism?

Notice that the article says absolutely nothing about any actual live grenades being found...

The Piat used a spring system if I recall correctly. Not exactly a dengerous weapon without the grenades

its a spigot fired mortar
guess if I went to a crims house and found that thing lying about i'd be a little bit worried:mad:.
was in service before bazooka's and unlike rocket launchers could be safely fired
from inside buildings
fortunately I doubt there's any rounds for them floating about

Even without a live round, deputies showed off the power of a WWII-era grenade launcher Thursday
What did they do? Hit each other over the head with it?
I'm not sympathizing with the criminals but these scare tactics by the media seem to be getting worse.
"It's an organized crime ring today. Is it a terrorist cell tomorrow? That's what concerns us," he said.
Two completely different goals and sources of motivation. It would be no more of a stretch to say: "It's an honest police department today. Is it the Waffen SS tomorrow? That's what concerns us," he said.

Well, there was the case where the Black P Stones (having changed their name to El Rukn) made a deal with Libya to commit terrorism for money. But, one exception does not a rule make...

I enjoyed how they folded out the Bayonet on the SKS... gotta make it look more eeevvviillll.... And is that all the ammunition they found? Maybe a mag and a half's worth for an AK?

Strange, if you follow the arrest details link in the article, none of these people seem to be charged with firearm related charges.

Judd said catching people like Carden and Gilmore became a top priority.

"It's an organized crime ring today. Is it a terrorist cell tomorrow? That's what concerns us," he said.

idiot

You hear when he stated he had a fully automatic weapon with a "bandanna'?

...and of course they show the yugo sks with no sholder stock just pistol grip and BAYONET OUT. omg where are these thugs going to use a bayonet when they have BULLETS!

Sadly this is central florida for you- over reacting, eager to show that they have it under controll, you tourists are safe to come here now that we have removed 100 rounds of ammo and a few guns (oh yah the greeenade launcher) from the dangerous streets of Polk County. For those of you who do not know, Polk County is about as po-dunk as it gets in Florida.

This ranks right up there with the "bullets designed to take down military aircraft and vehicals"

Stupid florida....:cuss:

Wow, a PIAT is old school. I wish to know where he acquired the ammo for such a weapon, assuming he actually found any. That's the kind of think you would expect to find buried in the jungles of burma, not sitting on a shelf in Florida.

edit: oh shocker, no ammo for it. It was basically just a giant metal tube with a spring powered launcher.

The PIAT was probably stolen from the home of a WWII arms collector, and it will most likely not be returned and instead melted down and destroyed in order to "protect the public" from the menace of 60 year old spring tube.
