Shot right through the eye with a Crossman 760 BB gun...BB used, no pellet...died instantly...unfortunately after thoroughly cooking this guy, the meat was still WAY to gamy and pungent-so I disposed of it. My kitchen smells like a sewer now. I don't recommend people shooting rabbits with such a cheap BB gun, but I've been using a 760 for target practice and what not for 14 years.

i have heard of something called rabbit feaver, and you are only suppost to eat them during hunting season, dont know how much truth there is to it. i really enjoy hunting with an air rifle too, i switched to .22 cal though, i kept loosing squirrels with the .177. Dennis

i dont really know how you cooked it but rabbit is really good. Key note, clean it, quarter it, par boil for at least an hour, then cook it however you'd like. I like to (after boiling) putting in on the grill and BBQ it.

If it tastes gamey, you're doing something wrong.

When dressed quickly and properly, kept cool, and cooked correctly, it's absolutely delicious.

I have heard something about only eating them at certian times... Something about them having a worm in their neck...

Also, I thought I heard my mother say she soaks her rabbits in a milk solution overnight before cooking to reduce the gamieness (is that really a word)

I've never had a bad-tasting rabbit. Select a recipe with some mild seasoning and it should taste great.

I dressed it no more than 10 minutes after I shot it...salt and peppered it, put in a skillet with some oil and red wine vinegar...smelled like poo.

I've prepared other rabbits this way before and they all smelled and tasted great. Yeah rabbit fever is called "tularemia" and it's caused usually by ticks and deer flies. Well we just got through a harsh winter and I don't think those bugs are even out yet.

It is a shame though, cause it had a lot of meat on it. Perhaps it was just an older rabbit maybe?

boil that joker first like you would a pork neck bone then throw em' in the skillet. I bet he'll eat then. I'm wouldn't be surprised if he had some sort of worm of something but it might be a little early in the year. I've ate rabbits during the summer that i sniped out of the garden and they were good.

Sidenote.... worms wont kill you i.e. last year on one of the big bears we killed we decided to try to fry up his heart..... long story short we decided to soak it for a while in case of heart worms. well they came out, had heart worms for sure, we got a little too deep in a liquor bottle and decide to fry it up anyway and i tell you that stuff was fittin. haha, sounds disgusting but its an honest fact.

That's pretty gross, man lol. Yeah I dunno if the rabbit had worms, I'm just glad I didn't eat the nasty thing.
