I just made my first purchase from Aim Surplus with my C&R FFL. I'm kind of wondering if I did everything correctly. I faxed and confirmed receipt of my signed 03FFL, so that should be no problem.

On the order confirmation page, however, I saw there was a space for you to upload images of state/local licences. Should I have uploaded a scan of my DL or something? Do they require that? Do you think the order will go through? Just kind of curious.

Other than that, I'm just wanting to hear everyone's input on the M44. From what I hear, they're great shooters, though perhaps a bit punishing! Any words of advice/tips/tricks would be much appreciated. Any good sources for cheap(er) NON-corrosive ammo out there?

Should I wear earplugs?

Just kidding.:D

MODS, please move wherever you deem appropriate! Thanks!

You should have no problem.I have purchased 6 rifles from AIM.
Once your FFL-03 is on file with them or any wholesaler you are good to go.
A poster on another thread was asking about how to get started.
I'll copy my answer to him and print it here.
Good luck in your new highly addictive, could become expensive ,hobby.
Remember, never sign the original, make many copies, and send them out to all these companies and other suppliers, like Midway USA and Brownells who will give dealer discounts with your C&rR.
The M44 is a fine shooter.A little punishing to the recoil sensitive.A Pass shoulder pad can help or padded butt stock.Check AIM,SOG,JG and others listed below for ammo.:)

:what:

I checked their website and wow, I can see some serious benefits from this FFL business. I'll have to be looking into that one of these days... Those are some good buys.

You say you can apply the 7.62 solvent to the primers to make them non-corrosive? There aren't any chemicals released by engaging the primer / from the primer being struck that is corrosive, or does this just take care of the bulk of it?

Trick question?
No, he means you can use those things to neutralize the corrosive salts in the barrel after shooting. Don't put it on the unfired ammo. :D

And yes, it can mess up the barrel. I have a WASR I still need to clean up. Shot some corrosive 5.45 w/o realizing it.

Thanks for the replies. I know it would be cheaper to shoot the milsurp corrosive ammo, but being a new Dad, my free time is fairly limited. I can't always get to cleaning my guns on the same day I shoot, so I think the new manufacture would be my best bet.

Any gotchas to know about on dis/reassembly?

The ammonia doesn't neutralize the salt. The only sure way to get it out, is by using water or one of the cleaners that will remove the salts. That being said, I do use ammonia glass cleaner in that the ammonia cleans some of the jacket deposits and the water with the cleaning agents, dissolve and remove the salt. I follow with a normal (hoppe's) cleaner

This article gives an indepth explination and results of different cleaners. The last page gives you an idea of how differnent commercial cleaners work. http://www.surplusrifle.com/reviews2006/alittlesalt/index.asp

Finally I have used AIM for a number of purchases and have always been happy with them.

I usually call the companies whenever I order anything. That way I can ask for any unadvertised specials or if they have any "u-fix-ums". And boy do they make it easy to order.

keep in mind, many of those places will now accept faxed copies of your ffl, sine the ATF now allows it

I've run across a number that still want a mailed copy of a C&R, since you can't check it on the FFL Ez-check, like you can with a dealer FFL.

I've ordered ammo from them, and after a couple of times they will actually keep your id on file so you don't have to mess with it anymore. They do need an actual image of your ID. I scanned mine and sent it in an email as an attachment. They always send you an email the day after to thank you for your order anyway, and you can reply and ask them your question, not sure how it works with a C&R, haven't gotten one yet.

You might want to add [email protected] to your address book so your spam filter doesn't block it, the guy's name is Bryan Flannigan, and he'll answer any questions you have.

good luck.

I'd get a C&R, but most of the good stuff they won't ship to NY state anyway. It's all those damn NYC legislators regulating the whole state.

You'd be better off ($) shooting corrosive ammo. It's not difficult to clean at all. When you're done shooting, just spray some windex down the barrel (remember you want to FLUSH out the corrosive salts) and then wipe out the receiver and bolt head with a windex soaked patch. It's takes an extra 5 minutes to clean it. Once you've flushed the bad stuff out, clean as normal.

Surplusrifle.com has full assembly/disassembly step by step instructions - very easy to take apart and put back together.

Enjoy your new C&R (and don't forget to get a bound book to log all your purchases!!)

You should let them secede.

Winchester thanks for stocksrestored.com!

EARPLUGS COMRADE! YOU DISGUST THE MOTHERLAND! IS GUN - MEANT TO KILL!

To answer your question... yes.

Enjoy shooting that thing. It's probably the best $100 you'll ever spend. The things are freakin' accurate. The only other adive I have is that the bolt tends to lock up between shots (depending on what ammo you're using). So be prepared to give it some elbow grease.
