Cheap Lead???

By lead, do you mean lead you can use to cast your own bullets? If so, you're going to need to buy other equipment to do so. The cheapest source of lead is usually a service station that mounts and balances tires. Sometimes you can arrange to buy their old wheelweights. You can get lead from several vendors on ebay, but expect to pay between $1 and $1.50 per pound. You might call some scrapyards in your area.

Perhaps lead bullets instead of jacketed.

Most any cast bullet manufacturer will have bullets between 6-9¢/bullet.

Try Berry bullets-copper plated and maybe plain ole lead.

While you are getting a supply going for scrap lead (it takes a while because the battery makers are grabbing it all) check out http://mastercastbullets.com. I'm not sure the prices on the web page are up-to-date, but Mike should be able to give you a price list or a quote.

The next place I'm gonna check for lead is the local dentists and radiologists. I don't know if they generate lead waste or not, but I think they might.

I've been buying them for $25/500 - plain old lead cast bullets. Not bad

That's a good price for 40's. Cheaper than I am.

Don't use battery lead. If you want some good info on casting your own, go check out castboolits.gunloads.com - great resource. They got me started.

Missouri Bullet Company has them at very affordable prices... friends say it's a good product, too!

years ago when I was making my own fishing weights I found a plumbing supply that had 10 lb. bars for what was a good price at the time. i tried old wheel weights and found them to have a lot of waste when they melted down... just my .02

when I started reloading I entertained the idea of casting my own... changed my mind after I looked into what was involved. now that the price of commercially cast lead is going up I might reconsider though:banghead:

It's fun, doesn't cost much to get started (Less than 100 bucks with two Lee molds) and produces very accurate bullets. Just another step in the reloading process.

However, molds and pots are sold out pretty much everywhere, because so many people have already reconsidered

While dirty and not real fun to get - lots of work. For those like me that cast their own bullets what about "Farming' the back stop at your range? Why should a bullet only be fired once - be earth friendly and re cycle your bullets.

It works for me. To get 3-5 gallons of fired bullets takes about an hour and while I never sat down and figured how much actual castable lead I get, its a pretty good amount.
