Greetings,
I just found all of you. Nice place you have here. I am traveling to Indiana this Saturday. Anything special I should know? Thanks.

ohio boy

ps As the name implies I am in Ohio.

I have an Ohio ccw. I will carry a side arm.

Indiana honors all legitimate carry permits foreign and domestic.
Open carry is legal with your permit.Discretion is advised.
Indiana has a long history of shall issue back to 1935.
The folks are friendly and the state is beautiful.
See the Amish communities,Notre Dame at South Bend,Indy and the lower part of the state bordering the Ohio River. Also Nashville,A quaint artist colony in the middle of the state.
Can't say enough about Hoosiers. They are wonderful. You will enjoy your stay.

Bring an umbrella if you're coming to the Indianapolis area. It's supposed to rain on Saturday. Sunday will be nicer.

Incidentally, Sunday is the first day of practice at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.... Carrying there will get you kicked out, though, if you're noticed.

All correct, and thanks for the compliments!

If you're just sightseeing, skip Indy altogether and enjoy a drive through Southern Indiana to the recently restored West Baden Springs Hotel. (Do a Google search, but be aware that pictures don't do the place justice.)

Thanks for all the info. I will be going to Findlay, Indiana first. My Cub Scout is camping there. Then we will travel a bit.

WRONG! You must follow the conditions of your permit. If your permit is a concealed carry permit then your gun MUST be concealed.

D'OH! He's right, I missed that part. Sorry for any cornfusion.

Indiana Code § 35-47-2-21
Recognition of retail dealers' licenses and licenses to carry handguns issued by other states
Sec. 21. (a) Retail dealers' licenses issued by other states or foreign countries will not be recognized in Indiana except for sales at wholesale.
(b) Licenses to carry handguns, issued by other states or foreign countries, will be recognized according to the terms thereof but only while the holders are not residents of Indiana.

As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32.

Because Ohio's CHL permit does not explicitly permit OC (not needed since no permit required to OC in Ohio) ohio_boy can't OC in Indiana, even though his CHL permit has much more stringent prerequisites than Indiana's?

Spaghetti laws.

You are so correct.
So Hoosiers should work on getting the requirement that you have to be an Indiana resident with an Indiana permit to OC,eliminated.
It doesn't make any sense.
Or does it?

Win73, there is at least a rational basis for it. Indiana law prohibits the carry of a handgun without the LTCH. Indiana chose to recognize the licenses to carry of all other states and foreign countries but chose to condition it that you have to carry like at your home.

If it was up to me, I would simply repeal the carry statute and make us "Vermont carry", but Rex Early lost the Gov. race in '96.:p

Thank you for the clarification.
I knew you would come through.
The problem is as shdwfx pointed out, states like Ohio,Arizona,Idaho, etc. where unlicensed OC is legal ,none,TMK ,mention the OC provision on the concealed carry permit, therefore shutting the option out .Thus leaving only Indy permit holders the OC ability legally.
There may be some state or foreign exceptions, but it's doubtful.
Still, Indiana is a whole bunch better than a score of other states. Will always love Indiana and will be back this summer.

There are some pretty scummy people visiting Indiana right now. I'd wait until after the election.:D

Just be sure to cover up yer hawglaig, plus, since you are from Florida, you have to wear giant sunglasses, black socks and sandals, drive around in a golf cart and eat dinner at 4:45PM after standing in line for your food.:D

I kid, I kid.;)

Even if you weren't kidding,I'm so fond of your great state,I'd submit to all your stipulations except for the driving around in a silly golf cart.:)
Too many wonderful places to visit(like the Dam Bar in downtown Indy) and things to do(fishing at Derby Landing on the Ohio River, this is a unknown piece of heaven!)
Along with California and Utah,Indiana is my favorite state. And I've been to all 50 ,except Hawaii.
No wonder you Hoosiers are always smiling.:D
