So there's this web-site...

http://www.torontothebad.com/

Where we find out how the City of Toronto really feels about us. At the bottom there's an e-mail addy link where you can let them know your opinion of them and how much money you're gonna not spend elsewhere!

Just watched the YouTube link. That guy is such a sleazy politician, but then again, aren't they all?

Activism?

Is there some activism here?

Yes, the guy hates gun owners, blah blah blah . . .

Is there something you'd like to recommend by way of action to be taken?

Griping isn't activism. Blowing off steam isn't activism.

So . . .

Is there activism to go with this?

Well Arfin,

The way it works is Toronto relies very heavily on tourism. Most of its guests come from the US. Toronto's Mayor wants to basically push all law-abiding gun owners out of Toronto. You, as an American, who can be a tourist, should tell the good Mayor of Toronto that you feel his plans are going to lead to the fair city of Toronto taking a hit in the tourism trade through thier apparent dislike of fine people such as you, who own guns. Should they realize that there is real money involved and the local businesses catch wind that the good Mayor's actions will lead to a direct, immediate and tangible hit on the bottom line, there will be what is commonly known as "fallout" and our good friend the Mayor will have to knock this crap off. At which point in time you will see that there is indeed activism in preventing the serious loss of ground for gun owners in Canada and further encroachment on freedoms in general.

Long story short, its a letter to a politician about infringing upon freedom. Take a look in the e-mail portion at the bottom, thy have it all spelled out for you.

We need a lot of help up here. We have two main gun lobby groups (NFA & CSSA) but we do not have the strength in numbers of your NRA. As stated, Toronto depends very heavily on tourism and the biggest contribution American gun owners can make is not to visit. We do not have a 2nd Amendment protecting our right to bear arms.

Go ahead and read what he thinks of the 80 million American gun owners and judge for yourself. Remember "Toronto the Bad" any time you or any of your gun buddies is thinking about coming to Toronto.

Mayor Miller and the Premier (Governor) of Ontario are both on the record for wanting a complete handgun ban in our entire country. Miller is in particular a very dangerous individual. The only thing that has saved us so far is a Conservative (minority) government that isn't buying into the rhetoric.

1. Miller has a gang violence problem in Toronto that he is trying to pin on legal gun owners. He has the worst record of managing the city and its finances in the city's history, and seems to be hinging on the gun issue to deflect people away from his real shortcomings.

2. Has an online petition going to present to our Federal Government (thankfully it will be ignored - as long as our Conservative minority government lives, that is)

3. As of yesterday, is proposing a city bylaw to shut down shooting ranges and gun stores within the city. This is a major threat to our sport and it something that could easily spread to other jurisdictions in the province of Ontario.

4. Will no doubt try for some sort of local bans in the future - be it on guns, ammo, reloading, etc.

Watch the video - this man is a true hoplophobe in a position of great power.

Do either of you gentlemen from Canada have some specifics about how much money US tourists spend in Toranto?

The movie industry, I think since the Canadian dollar is rising in value versus the American dollar, it has been on the decline. Slowly going out of Toronto, but I read somewhere that Montreal movie industry is on the upstart.

Maybe we should send the mayor a letter telling him if he wants to take the firearms from US citizens he should come get them.

Maybe this subforum is about realistic actions on behalf of RKBA instead of pointless posturing?

This is what I emailed to Mayor Miller and the Toronto council.

Dear Mayor Miller,

I am one of the millions of people that responsibly own firearms.

During my three previous trips to Toronto I always felt welcome, but I understand that you do not welcome legal firearms owners to the City of Toronto.
I will respect your wishes. I will not visit your city and spend my money there any longer.

I will be certain to let others who have traveled with me know of my decision and encourage them to visit other Canadian cities without such misguided leadership.

Sincerely,

Here are the email addresses for the folks it went to - [email protected]

The object is to tell the council that money that has been spent in Toronto will no longer be coming into the city.
It's good that the bot (Board of Trade) for Toronto is included, but it might be good if the Hotel and Restaurant association for the city who will be more directly impacted by the Mayor's scapegoating received copies as well.

:scrutiny:I would go but I'm at work and the web blocker thingie is blocking the site.
Reason?
Porn.

So goes California, so goes the rest of the US. So goes Toronto, so goes the rest of Canada. Also, this mayor is a real SOB. He makes Bloomberg look pro-gun. David Miller is beyond gun bans, he's for gun confiscation. This thread is relevant to activism, because something needs to be done about this man's rhetoric. It infects all of Canada and no doubt can spill into the US. I'd love to see a poll of Canadians asking where most of Canada's violence comes from; I'd bet at least half would blame guns from the US. It's a convenient way to divert problems away from the politicians causing them.

Perhaps a propaganda war is in order? Can our Canadian friends point us to their versions of Democratic Underground? Maybe we need to start our own campaign that goes beyond our borders.

For those of you that can't get to the site -

Welcome to

Don't go where you're not wanted. Boycott Toronto!

NEWS FLASH: Mayor Miller makes proposal to Toronto Executive Committee to close all shooting ranges, firearms retailers, wholesalers and manufacturers in the City of Toronto. Are target shooters and movie productions really that dangerous? Click HERE

For the last three years, the Mayor of Toronto, David Miller, has been blaming trustworthy, legal firearms owners for the gun related drug crime taking place in his city. At first it was thought that the Mayor was simply uninformed about the real facts pertaining to lawful firearms ownership in Canada. But despite the huge efforts of groups such as the Canadian Shooting Sports Association and the Canadian Institute for Legislative Action, the mayor continues to spew his anti-gun rhetoric.

Mayor Miller has targeted the two million legal owners of firearms in Canada and his statements cast aspersion upon the 80 million lawful firearms owners of our closest friend and ally, the United States of America. He has completely misrepresented the truth about firearms ownership, stating that half of the firearms used in crime are stolen from Canadian owners and the other half are smuggled in from the U.S. because of lax gun laws and careless owners. The Mayor has drawn his battle lines. He can work against lawful gun owners if he chooses but the millions of safe, legal, responsible people who happen to own firearms have a choice too.... But we can vote with our wallets.

Mayor Miller says "there are no economic consequences" to his hate campaign against firearms owners.

Let Mayor Miller know: We clearly understand that lawful firearms owners are not welcome in his city. Let him know that we, our loved ones, our friends and anyone else we care to influence will stand by us and will choose another place to spend our money.

Here is what the Mayor says about Canadian and American firearms owners.

Read an Interview with Mayor Miller about banning guns and our American friends.

:rolleyes:Figures

So I start doing my 1337 mastergoogle-fu type stuff to see what I could find out about the site. Found that it was about some dumbarse mayor pushing for what would basicly amount to a US mayor banning NFA items. Handguns are already banned in Canada with a very small group of folks owning them.

Anywho, I go through all that, roll my eyes, and come back with my reply to find that ........................ HSO had dutifully ccp'ed the text for me.

bleh

so in response all I have to say is .... bleh

No, handguns aren't banned at all. They're just considered restricted items, which means they are a little harder to obtain. You're also restricted to 10 round mags with a handgun in Canada and there is a legal barrel limit of ~4" or greater, but that's about it. You can add forward grips, stocks, etc. Things that would make a handgun an NFA item in the US, are a non-issue to Canadians.

It's important that we help pro-gun people in other countries as well. The US is almost an island unto itself in terms of good gun laws, we need to work to change that. America is known for exporting its culture to other parts of the world. If we can export our wonderful gun culture to the rest of the world, I say "bully, let's do it!"

I’ve lived in the States, I went to university in the States and I don’t think there’s a place for guns there either...

And you know what?

I've lived in Toronto, I went to the University of Toronto and I think that there IS a place for guns there.

Well Sapanther,

There are about 500,000 registered handguns in Canada according to Canada Firearms Centre, almost One Million according to some activist groups. When we consider the population of Canada at 33 Million, that is a pretty big chunk of the people, they are hardly banned, just highly restricted. Having said that, there is a strong resurgence in interest in firearms in Canada, heck there's even a Canadian version of a CCW petition going around. A good chunk of Canadian gun owners have backed our American allies quite a bit. We know that if you guys go down, so will we.

Gents,

I'll remind everyone that we're here to ACT and not to debate endlessly.

The Mayor of Toronto is clearly lying to gain political advantage. He's demonizing Canadian handgun owners and Americans in general with spew about the basis of violent crime so thin that we should be able to have a little beneficial impact if we help our Canadian colleagues counter the lies with facts.

Let's lend a hand.

As a Torontonian, I thank you so much for your effort.
I am getting my restricted firearms acquisition training and test next month. Hopefully, I will have a new Norinco 1911 by next month.

How many of you gun-toting yanks bring your guns when you come to visit Toronto? Let'em have it.

Re:Targeting the good guys

Letters, May 29

It is interesting to note that letters criticizing Toronto City Council for closing down city-run shooting ranges were sent from Mississauga, Halifax, Wellesley, Ont., Pickering and Peterborough.

I supported shutting down the shooting ranges because I believe it is hypocritical for city council to call for a total ban on handguns, while supporting and in fact subsidizing gun culture at city-run facilities – especially when recreation programs to keep kids away from the draw of a street culture that too often includes weapons are underfunded in Toronto.

Letters from outside the city and indeed from across North America have been trickling in since council made its decision. My favourite letters are the ones being sent from the U.S. Gun owners there are now urging a boycott of Toronto. Considering that most of the problems with guns on our streets emanate from south of the border, I couldn't be happier.

If all it took was closing a couple of shooting ranges to stop gun-toting Yanks from coming to our city, maybe we should have shut the doors on these clubs years ago.

As for people outside Toronto, you are free to shoot off your mouths in this city or any other town. Just don't shoot off a gun in Toronto.
