Are shotguns with exposed hammers still made?

They are still made. Many of them are low-end beaters, meant for Cowboy Action Shooting or just because people want a cheap one. They're functional, but certainly not refined. Some have fake hammers that fall but don't really strike the firing pins.

However, there are some nice ones being made, too. I don't know the MSRP's...

Go here: http://www.faustistefanoarms.com/cat_elenco.asp select "Hammer side by side shotgun" and hit Search.

classic arms has authentic side by side shotguns in several calibers, and are a great company to deal with.

The shotguns can be found about 3/4 way down the page, and can be had for about 200 bucks.

Beretta makes a nice set; this is the 20 Ga. entry:

On the other side the Chinese were making one. I got one in 2004 for $150.

You might find a used Rossi around, I saw a listing on GunsAamerica from a while back where the guy was asking 449.

This one (made in Brazil - circa 1980's) used to be my Grandfather's - Dad gave it to him for HD. 3" 12GA M/IC w/20" barrels.

The best coachgun with external hammers is made by TTN. The same gun is also sold by EMF. Remington Spartan has an external hammer model. The least expensive version is made by Norinco and sold under the Interstate brand.

If you want a sidelock that loads the old-fashioned way, Pedersoli makes nice ones. No FFL required.:)

Remington offers a 'functional hammer' model in their Spartan line; don't know who actually makes it, though.

There's a Chinese clone of a Winchester Model 1897 available in the states now. You can probably find one at a local gun shop or on Gunbroker.com. The shop nearest to me has two. It's a pump with an exposed hammer.

I think hammers on some of the Baikals are just for show! And I neglected to mention Rossi. The older ones with the exposed hammers have a sort of following it seems.

I almost bougt a 20ga version last year for $150 but it was too rusty.

I just shot my first 25 straight in Trap using an old Rossi hammer double. Those are great guns. They were made in Brazil, and the ones I have seen are well worth the price.

TTN sells a clone of a Colt design from the 1770s.

Remington sells their "Spartan", which is actually a Baikal made in Russia.

Huglu of Turkey sells a hammer double. They have been imported under other brand names.

There are more.

I have one of the 200 chinese SxS from classic arms. The hammers don't hit the firing pins. I like it for the price.

Actually, they do hit the firing pins. That's how it goes bang! They just don't rest on the firing pins. When you pull the trigger, they go forward enough to do the job. Have you even shot it yet? If you push the hammers forward with the action open, you will see the firing pins move forward. I have one of the same coach guns by Norinco. At first, I too thought this was a strange set up, but I placed a thin tissue between the FP and the hammer. It poked a hole in it. I did have a problem with the side of the hammer dragging on the stock slowing down the hammer getting light strikes. Whittled down the wood, and problem went away.
Thought I'd buy a chinese copy to see if I liked them. Fun guns. If I could only afford a CZ. Now there is a masterpiece of art work!

Cimmaron is importing the TTN coachgun made in china its a 1887 colt copy.I have one cost ~400 from Buffaloarms.com. I like the authentic hammers no safety for cowboy shooting.
CZ makes one also Brother has one it has a safety the hammers are further apart (mine is easy to cock both at the same time with one motion, his not so much) its also prettier than mine case hardened finish and the stock is glossy(mine is much more buisness like oil finish and blue) IIRC though he paid almost twice what I did.
they are both fun as heck (not so much patterning buckshot it hurt a little both have steel buttplates) we got them within a week of each other and both function and shoot informal thrown clays great.

Are the norinco SxS shotguns on classicarms any good, like the price but i fear it is just some cheap chinese junk but don't know. Do they shoot good might use it for trap or some heavy brush coyote hunting. other than that will probably just be a good go out and shoot some crap gun. those evil pumpkins will never know what hit them :D

I was totally happy with the Chinese double until I cracked the stock firing both barrels at same time a lot. I still shoot a Chinese o/u that is serviceable.

I've got one, not from Classic Arms though. The chambers were a little rough, polished with rolled up sandpaper. The shell "lifter" had surface rust on the shaft I found that needed to be cleaned up, and the stock too wide causing the hammer to drag. Little rough, but if you know guns, and can work on guns, a great savings.
