Finally settled on a nice little East German Makarov I saw today for $300 (I know, a bit high from what I've read) that did include a nice soft plastic Mak holster. After a visit to the Makarov.com site, I've discerned that its evidentally a 1961 model as evidenced by the "AR" serial and "61" on the frame. Its serial is stamped as AR 3693 on both slide and frame... but on closer inspection, I uncovered a previous mark under the last two numbers that read-possibly- "81" under both serial number stamps.

Can anybody out there tell me what I may have here and if it was worth something of what I paid for it? I've tried to get into the Makarov discussion page on that web site's affiliated forum site but my "spam blocker" won't let me access that site so you guys here seem to be my only hope. Thanks. :D

Makarovs were designed in Ruskie-land by Mr. Makarov in the late 40s i think

this page from cruffler .com will do the history better than I
i love mine :)
three bills is a bit high you are right, but i think it is worth it.....east german maks are regarded by many mak collectors as the finest examples of quality there are
they are pretty collectible i think, maybe not so much as an original russian military one but i could be wrong
ill bet the gun will be worth more than you paid eventually.....any makarov is a value at about any reasonable price if you can afford it i think

What spam program are you using? Can't you disable it for specific sites?

$300 is steep unless you got mags serial numbered to your EG Mak, original holster and some paperwork. But don't sweat the price. EG Mags are getting harder to find.:D
