Stickjockey said you was near Airport in NE? Same here.

Fantacmet: yes, I'm up by the airport around 83rd and Prescott. Where are you?

Josh- Still Monday and Tuesday off? What are your hours?

BTW- started the new job on Monday. 8:00-4:00 with weekends and holidays off. Score!

I'm glad our member got such a warm welcome in the city of roses. I used to visit there often on account of a girl in beaverton, and yes it's a gun friendly, beautiful, mellow city.

However....

The O.P. Still hasn't been to Jakes Seafood, and that's a sin. Don't make me come up there....

Second that. Waddled out of there a few weeks ago after eating a Dungeness crab plate and quaffing an ale. Probably THE best food in Portland.

Neighbor and I just lightened our ammo coffers yesterday at Brown's Camp. We were there some 4 hours plinking pistols and shooting beer bottles someone left on the back wall some 160 yards out. I hit one off hand at that range, took about three shots. I was pretty darn amazed, but I hit it. Off the bench, it was cake, offhand, it was luck, pure luck. However, it does give me lots of confidence with hunting season around the corner. (BTW-i don't take glass out to shoot, they were already there that someone left behind)

best cheap safe appartments are knob hill appartments on the corner of NW 24th and Irving.

Jobs are hard to find in Orogon so if Portland aint got a job for you maybe try Beaverton. You will want to eat at NY Pizza on NW 23rd street and get used to the beggers. Seems to be a way of life for the Portland homeless.

Rent "The Hunted" filmed all around Portland and Silver Falls area. The Goonies was filmed in Astoria and there aint many jobs there either or anyplace else but Portland. Ask me how I know...........

If this Country boy from NC can move there and live for 2 years you guys will be fine. JUst look through the papers BEFORE you go and send out Resume's. Them hit those same places on foot when you get there.

Oh yeah........check out REI too...

Couple other places to try....

Best pizza, IMHO, is Old Town Pizza. Laurelwood is fast becoming my favorite place up there to get the best micros on tap. If you want your best dose of the hippie culture on a weekly basis, the Saturday Market is the place to get a contact high.

I grew up in Portland and wouldn't mind moving back. It's still a small, big city to me.

Hey there fellow THR's. Unfortunately, I had to give up my life in Montana and relocate to the greater Portland area. I have been hear a short while. It's good as far as cities are concerned. However, shooting alone is getting pretty old. I usually frequent the pits up in the Memaloose area outside of Estacada. Feel free to send me PM if anyone wants a new shooting buddy. My days off are usually Tuesday's and Wednesday's. It would alway's be nice to have another person to go with as well. I have met some questionable characters coming out of the woods up there.

Wow... never realized there were so many of us long sufferring souls living in rain soaked, gawd awful Oregon!!! I guess the old saying is true, misery loves company.

(Yes I am a Tom McCall fan).

The rain rarely gets to me. I think we have that reputation, but I remember seeing a comparison that it actually rains more in New York than Oregon. It's just that we get ours for about 4 or 5 months straight. You can't beat the summers here.

I would love to go shooting. Seems like most of you live a bit too far north to get together much, but if you are south or I'm north, let's make a date. Or maybe an Oregon gathering......?

Not a Portland man, but I do like it there. I live a couple hours south, in Eugene. I like this thread. It's fun to find so many THR-ers close by.

Surprised that I hadn't noticed this thread before....

Newberg checking in.

I usually shoot in the coast range roughly 1/2 way between Portland and Seaside.

Oregon is great.

And don't forget.... NO SALES TAX! :D and no self service gas, which is great if your lazy like me :p Compared to some other states, Oregon is really cheap for registering cars... I love Oregon, moved to California for work about 10 years ago and couldn't wait to get back home to Oregon. I live in Roseburg, we have 4 nice seasons.. lot drier then Portland. Oregon is gun friendly. We have lots to do, hunting, fishing, shooting, shooting, shooting and did I mention hunting? :)

Portland is just about the most liberal city in the country... pretty much like San Francisco. But the rest of Oregon (except for Eugene and Ashland) are pretty red. You'll like Oregon, it's kind of a laissez faire state... which is better then California where regulations are rampant and there is an eagerness to always add more controls and regulations... especially for guns. Got in trouble there when I was 17 for shooting a bb gun, neighbor called sheriff and they said it was illegal to discharge a firearm near occupied structures... when did an air powered bb gun, become a **fire**arm?

Family Member Near Portland

I'd like to hear via PM from anyone near Portland (more specifically Tigard) who may be able to help with a family member over there who's trying to get settled but, being new to the area, is having some difficulty.

Young starving artist syndrome.

PM or email.

Thanks.

I work in Eugene, but there is a chance I may move to Portland in the not too distant future if the rumors flying around at work are true. I imagine about 1,000 of my co-workers are concerned as well.

No offense intended to Portland dwellers, but I have a very strong dislike of Portland; I'd sooner move out to the middle of Wyoming, but I've gotten use to a decent wage so my wife can stay home while the kids are little.

If this dreaded shutdown and transfer takes place I'll be back to this thread.

Hillsboro here. Just a little SE of the airport (trying to stay out from under Itgoesboom and his damn eggbeaters)

Welcome to Oregon. At least you're not from California.

Harrisburg, town in the middle of grass seed farms and along the banks of the Willamette. Between Albany and Eugene.

Ok. Now that summer is starting to approach (the whole 2 days in the middle of july/august :) ) we seriously need to get a THR get-together for the greater PDX area... anyone good at organizing things like this (cause I'm lousy at it)?

Appleseed?

Hey folks, any interest in putting on an Appleseed shoot in the Portland area?
How 'bout down around Eugene or maybe Roseburg? Any of you southern staters or eastside folks interested? PM me if you are.

Oh please! If it happened within an hour or so of Portland, that would be lovely. Possibly at the Douglass Ridge Rifle Club. They have shooting out to 1,000 yards, so if people wanted to put some long range theory into long range practice, they could. I know of at least one member on this board who's a member there.

Just found this thread. A year late, but welcome, just the same. I've been in Salem for 14 years now and recently joined the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club http://www.arpc.info/. Good club and watch for their Gun Show in Albany on 27-28 September, it's the best in the state!
