Back in the mid 1970's; (growing up) I had my eye on a lever action .22 cal rifle.. I think it was a Winchester, but for some strange reason my memory wants to say Remington. I do not think Remington made a .22 lever action back then. I would like to try and find this gun and pick one up... Can you help??.... PS.. I did purchase a S&W model 29 @ that time along with a model 27. So all is not lost... thanks, DS

Ithaca made the Ithaca 72 back then. Mossberg also made a couple more modern-looking lever .22s. I think one was called the "Palomino". Marlin made at least one really nice one - again, a bit more modern-looking.

HTH

the one thing that I do remember was the stock Real wood; with a very high gloss Poly coating on it. Almost looked 3-D !!!! :)

Remington sold a lever action version of the Nylon 66 in the early 60's IIRC it was called the Nylon 77 or 88. A buddy in 7th grade had one.

Sounds like the Browning BL-22. It had a vey high gloss stock. Really nice little rifle!

Other ones mentioned are the Remington Nylon Model 76 (Nylon 66 in lever action); Mossberg Palomino (Model 402 as I recall); The Winchester mentioned above; and Ithaca had a single shot lever action 22; and of course the tried and true Marlin 39A.

It might have been a Winchester 9422 XTR. That was the option with nicer wood.

When I was 12 my Father bought me my first .22, it was an Ithaca. I don't remember the model #, but it was a single shot lever action. It loaded from the top and fired short, long, or L.R. ammo. That was over 40 years ago but I still remember that .22!

That almost sounds like a Browning BL-22 to me. The Winchester 94/22 back than were nice and glossy but not the to same depth of the BL-22.
