Only pictures I can find of them in the same shot are side by side profile style, no "top views" (or even bottom, or rear etc would work). I know the .2" difference in width is across the grips, but I'm trying to figure out if the p239 is also any thinner in the frame and slide as well, or only the grips.

I do.

They don't feel much different across the frame, though I would imagine my 220 .45 is bigger than the 239 9mm. It's not much, though.

Dimensions...

I have a P239 and a P226, but not a P220. So I went to the Genitron handgun database and found this:

Genitron Handgun Database

Item P239 (9mm) P220

Weight 27.5 oz. 30.4 oz.
Barrel 3.6 in. 4.4 in.
Length 6.6 in. 7.8 in.
Width 1.2 in. 1.4 in.
Height 5.1 in. 5.6 in.

So it would appear that the P220 is 10 to 20% larger than the 9mm P239, depending on which parameter you are measuring. I can say from measuring my P239 in 9mm that the slide width from flat to flat is just slightly over 1.0 inches, and the widest point is the top of the grip near the decocker.

Here is a comparative picture of my P239 next to my Colt Defender, a 1911 with 3 inch barrel:

I'll try to get you some better side by sides and top down views tonight.

My P239 is a 357SIG, and is probably a tad heavier in the slide than that of the 9mm gun.

The grip angle on the .45's is different than that of the P239, P226, P229. They point a little different because of it.

They all are very easy to shoot well with, and I find I do just slightly better with the P239, P226 and P229. The grips on the .45's are a tad wider front to back, and I tend to slightly prefer the grips of the other guns.

THANK YOU A.K. those are EXACTLY the shots I was looking for (I.E. the "width" angles)! I really appreciate it.

Well, someone just measured them for me, and the p239's slide is actually slightly thicker than that of the p220! Only by (EDIT: .008"), but still- I would NOT have believed him had I not seen A.K.'s photos here. Picture's worth a thousand words!

The 220 slide is thinner by .008 not .08.

Oh, right .008 (thanks again R.S.). Negligible difference I guess, but still surprising that the .40/.357/9mm is any amount fatter than the .45acp!

Bump for anyone who hasn't yet seen A.K.'s excellent photo comparison and R.S.'s measurement between the P220 and P239 width!
