That's just it, Machinisttx.... people don't know what to expect. It could be a very big deal, and have a huge impact on gun laws all across the U.S.

OR... it could be "a whole lot of nothing".

And both sides, "Pro" and "Anti", want to know.

And I'm also quite sure that those folks in the black robes know this, and are playing it for all it's worth.

Not quite sure I follow some of the Scalia hating as he is one of the most consistent Supremes when it comes to strict construction.

I'm not saying I always agree with him, either, but maybe some of the reserve is due to the pervasive libertarianism on THR? Since the Constitution (and amendments) is not a strictly libertarian document, I guess I can see why some here oppose his opinions.

But on this issue, I'd think Scalia would be the least of our worries.

I'm willing to bet that they will say that it is an individual right, but reasonable restrictions are ok. THIS IS NOT A WIN FOR 2A.

There is no use worrying about things over which you have no control.

exactly.... get smashed, and tell her it was just rehearsal so that you know how to do it just right come Wednesday or Thursday.

From what many of you are saying, I get the impression that my thoughts on Scalia may be too cynical. If that's the case, it's good news.

Is it a 75 yard touchdown pass against the wind for gun rights? NO - but anyone who has been expecting that has not been paying attention. This is a "turn-over" where we get the ball back and make 10 yards. Next court case in Chicago or NY will win back another 10 yards. We keep pushing forward, and more ground gained. Pfft, you want it to be all quick, easy, and over right now? Then quit, surrender, because that's all that would be easy and quick.

This is not the first shot of the war, but it is the episode in which the tide begins to turn, much like the Normandy invasion. Significant not because of what it ends, but because of what it begins. For those who have been laboring under jurisdictions where the 2nd has been considered a "collective right" this gives them the ammunition to start fighting back thru the court system. And millions who live in CA, NJ, NY and IL will definitely see that as a WIN. That puts them back in the fight again. And you, me and all us gunnies need every one of them back in the fight.

compared to what we have now, which is that most federal courts have ruled it a collective right, and that federal, state and local governments are free to pass whatever restrictions they want, I'd call it a win.

they're going to announce whether it is tomorrow in a few minutes. It looks like Scalia is for sure writing Heller now.

Update 10:27 AM: Heller WILL be announced TOMORROW

10:27 Ben Winograd - The Chief Justice has announced from the courtroom that the Court will issue all of its remaining opinions tomorrow at 10 a.m. Eastern.

After waiting all these years for a decision- after waiting all these months for this decision- after waiting all these hours for someone to make a decision, all I can say now is AHHHRRRRGGGGHHH!!!

:banghead::cuss:

Does anyone know if CSPAN covers the release of descisions? I'm going to be out of town at a wedding and have no access to the internet :banghead:, TV is about all I'll be able to check.

they didn't on Monday or today.

I have a feeling SOMEBODY will be covering tomorrow now that we know Heller will be announced. Maybe CSPAN or one of the news networks.

If you have a cell-phone with internet access, you can check on there too. Or, if you get text messages, maybe somebody on here with text-messaging capability would be willing to text the outcome to you.

Yeah a text message would be perfect. If there is somebody willing to spare a moment tomorrow morning to text message me the results you'd really make my day [Edit: Someone has stepped up to the plate. Thank You!] . No practical jokers though, I think I'd have a heart attack if I got a message stating "DC Ban Upheld, 6-3, Souter writing No indivdual right." :what:
