My carry gun & holster *fell out* of my pants!

Oops. If you change gear or habit as a corrective measure, let us know if the change helps. Thanks.

BTW, ignore the poster with the less the helpful comment.

I think the problem is that the holster is not stable. It only attaches to the belt at one point, and the gun is large and heavy enough that it can rock forward and backward on that point. Aside from never knowing exactly where the grip of your gun is (and the clip aligned with the gun adding quite a bit of bulk over the already bulky cylinder), that could allow one corner of the belt clip to slip over the belt, after which it is a simple matter for the whole thing to come off.

I never was a fan of the single-attachment-point holsters. I really believe in a wider holster with spread out attachment points.

Yep. Those kinds of clips are subject to coming unattached. Anything made by man can fail. I occasionally use them, but with the mindset that after any unusual movement like bending or twisting, the holster needs to be checked.

Disagree with Bogie, thought it was a good post, and a maybe we could learn from it.

Had a similar thing happen to me with a Walther P99 in a Sidearmor holster with the J-hooks, I believe they are called. Getting out of my car to buy a newspaper in a stand it popped out and skidded across the road a few feet (not into traffic), scratching up the slide. A driver may have seen it, it was not a busy road, although I scooped it up quickly.

I think I somehow unhooked the J-hooks, were just kydex half loops that hooked on your belt, while bending and twisting to get out of the car and then managed to pop the holster, which was fairly large for a full sized pistol like the P99, out.

Based on that I now prefer a more secure method of hooking the holster to the belt, like a fixed full loop or a snap on full loop at least. Your clip looks more secure than my J-hooks but I will still be uncomfortable with it.

I never liked those clips either. I much prefer holsters with enclosed loops.

On my few holsters that do have clips, I use them like loops, threading the belt through it rather than clipping it on.

Thanks, Dravur. Well said. That's the point of this forum, so I thought. Learn from others' mistakes, learn how to do it better, safer, etc.

I appreciate having someplace to go to discuss issues openly, honestly, and civilly. I hope to learn by reading posts here, and I hope that in the areas where I do it right, I can pass that on to others. At the same time, I hope that my mistakes can teach as much or more as my successes.

So again, thanks to those who make this a learning forum.

Since when did THR become...

"I'm such a numbnuts that I did something stupid, so I'm going to brag about it to the world, Brady, and Chuckie Schumer!"

Sheesh.

Bogie,

I'm not bragging. I'm not *proud* my gun fell out by any means!

I thought I'd share, even though it's embarasing, so that other people could learn from this. And maybe I'd see if this has happened to anyone else.

If you don't get that, well, I can't say what I'm thinking because of the forum rules...

Don't feel lonesome. Even the police have trouble with that.

I almost picked up two holstered S&Ws with my sweeper truck when cleaning the University Mall (Tuscaloosa, AL) parking lot. Both were local police, one belonged to a detective - and had his badge folder with it! They apparently came loose when getting into or out of their cars.

Both guns were returned to their red-faced owners.
