New here

Hey everyone. I've seen links to this place in sig lines on other forums that I frequent(arfcom & surplusrifleforums) so I thought I'd come and check it out. My main intrest is in mil-surp rifles and rimfires, but I've got all different kinds of guns. I've found forums such as this to offer a wealth of information.

Hi mnrivrat. Thanks for the welcome. The U-9 is the BSA. Herter’s considered it their premium model at the time, so I chose it over the Mauser. I stocked mine in mahogany, and glass bedded it. It is a very accurate rifle.

I went to Waseca in 1971, to visit the Herter’s store. It was like being a kid in a candy store. I lived in Wisconsin at the time and was on my way to Yellowstone to spend some leave time before reporting to my next duty station which was Laughlin AFB near Del Rio.

I sure do miss Herter’s. Not all of their stuff was great, but enough of it was, and with good prices.

Welcome to all, nearly a newbie myself after a long dry spell. Hope all enjoy and learn/share while here. If any are near NC/SC and want to drop in on our little bi-annual gatherings please let me know. Lots of fun/food/topics discussed for less than you can feed your family for one night out. wc

New Member Stuff

Another new member here. I own multiple long guns and pistols of which my two favorites are my Beretta 92FS and my Fox Sterlingworth 16ga DBL. I do hunt every season and regularly fire most of my weapons.I do have my CCH and exercise my rights associated with it regularly. I really want to try my hand at some IDPA or USPSA, but I am just not sure I am good enough yet. Don't want to get out there with the real shooters and embarrass myself!

Hey everyone

Hey everyone. I'm new here. My buddy Nick told me about this site and said it's full of very informed and intelligent people. That's kind of unusual to find on the internet now adays. haha Look forward to participating and snooping around.

Laters,

Hi all.

Name is Dale and I am from Texas.

Some would call me a gun nut, but i prefer firearms enthusiast and collector.

As far as the type of guns I like, i enjoy all firearms but have a soft spot for the more traditional guns like revolvers, side by side shotguns or single shots, lever action rifles, single shot rifles, and black powder rifles. but I own all different types of firearms in all actions and calibers.

Just checking in...

Be gentle. New poster here. I found this sight after finding a link to an 03-A3. Seems to be a few lifetimes of reading here. Looking forward to it. Cheers.

Howdy, folks. I'm new here as of today. I have owned guns all my adult life. I hunted quite a bit in my younger days, but have recently not had time nor places to hunt.
I am very upset about the way gun ownership is being viewed by the liberals today. Today's court ruling seems to be a step in the right direction, but more must be done.
I am tired of being part of the silent majority, so I am now speaking up.
To me , 2A is very clear. 2a is short and sweet, not complicated unless you want to muddy the waters.
The first part is parenthetical, explaining the second part. The main thought is that the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed. The result of that right is to insure the government will not be able to supress the people. What is so complicated about that?

Not new, but ANEW!

Been in a funk for a long time...and haven't visited since Feb 19, 2007 - what a wonderful day to resurface, eh? Looking forward to reading and sharing with you all again!:)

Hey I am Brandon. I am active duty Navy. I love firearms, hunting and pretty much anything outdoors. I own a Beretta 96, Taurus 85 .38 special, Winchester 94 .357 Mag, Mossberg 535, a Marlin 336 .30-30 (third generation inheritance), and a Mauser 98 8mm (researched it due to markings and traced back to the Nazi's in North Africa).

Hello all! My name is Matt. I live in Ohio. All of my shooting lately has been focused on mastering the double action trigger pull on the Beretta 92FS. I'm looking to broaden my horizons soon though.

Former Lurker, Now a Member

Howdy All,

My name's Herb and I spend a lot of time reading this forum when I should be working... but it's hard to stop when there's so much going on here.

I live in northern Illinois, with some of the worst gun laws in the nation. But I never let that stop my enjoyment of shooting. There aren't many places to shoot around here (though I have a mini-range in my basement for .22 plinking), so in order to feed my fever, I've built a decent library of gun books (I'm a book nut and a history nut also), I've developed semi-decent gunsmithing skills (I enjoy disassembly/cleaning/modification as much as shooting), and now I'm getting ready to geek out on reloading (never tried it, think I'll like it).

My first gun was a .22 Savage Model 5... bolt action, tube magazine. My Dad taught me how to shoot with it, and later gave it to me... when I was 10 years old. I loved that gun. When I went off to college, my mom gave it away to someone, along with the Ruger Single Six that I got in high school (thanks mom!).

I eventually replaced the Ruger with a new one, and just recently found and purchased a vintage Savage Model 5 after many years of looking.

I should also mention, in my own verbose fashion, that I rarely know when to shut up. So I'll just say that I'm glad to be here.

Hi, everyone!

I'm a recent law school grad living in Indiana, although originally from Illinois (yeah, ick). I found out about THR from Oleg's page, which I probably first visited a decade ago but come back to now and then. During my undergrad years, I was associated with the ACLU, NRA, Champaign County Rifle Association, and Concealed Carry Inc, although my youthful enthusiasm more or less died out when CCI folded and I pretty much accepted that Illinois would never have CCW. I am currently associated with the Federalist Society and the Log Cabin Republicans.

I'm more interested in RKBA issues because of my political beliefs than because I'm a firearm enthusiast. You could describe me as a hawkish libertarian--I believe the government is of specific, limited powers and should not stray outside of that. Unlike many libertarians, though, I am not an isolationist. I don't yet own any firearms, but they are on the short list for post-bar-admission and post-gainful employment acquisitions. That's not to say that I don't care for them personally--I didn't have anything to drink on my 21st birthday... but I did go to my local range and rent a USP and a Glock for awhile.

I'll probably mostly be in the legal threads... I look forward to fencing with many of you (I love to play devil's advocate).

Hi,

I'm a third year college student who just moved to Flagstaff, AZ. I have always been interested in guns particularly bolt-actions with a Mauser action. I have never fired a gun in my life but I feel that it is a basic human right to defend one self. As I now have my own place I am looking for help with finding places to teach me to shoot and tips as to good buys.

Hi, names Larry Trail, but I go by the name of "Trailltrader" which is my Ebay name.

Been a long time gun owner, former army drill sgt, NRA life memeber, and 2nd admendment foundation memeber.

Welcome to all the new folks who have joined. (DCR, welcome back!)

Please check the Forum Rules found in the upper right corner of the page if you're not certain that your post meets the rational civil discussion theme of THR.

We've had quite a bit of "locker room" behavior from folks who've joined from other forums lately. Everyone was 13 going on 30 at some point in their lives. Let's just not act like 30 going on 13. THR has plenty of families who read and participate in the community here. Let's keep that in mind or "Art's Granmaw" might drop on you like the 82nd with a whole case of soap.

Search is your friend at THR. There's a huge reservoir of information to draw on here and you may find your question has been asked and answered previously. If it's not been addressed or you can't find it go ahead and ask, but don't be annoyed if someone points out a previous thread.

Enjoy and let's keep the momentum that Heller has provided us going so we can reverse those laws on the books that unreasonably restrict our rights.

Hi everybody I'm new to this forum I was brought up loving guns of all types and I'm into just about everything outdoors. I'm from Rhode Island ,it would be interesting to see if anyone else was nearby.

I'm new. I work at the St.Marie Swiss Products shop and one of my duties is to watch gund boards for unanswered questions about k31s and zfk55s.
We don't deal with the public at all but we do answer questions about Swiss rifles.
Hope I can be of help here
Thanks

New Guy

Hello everyone!

After a little time spent looking around on the site, I decided to join. It sure looks like there is a ton of quality info here and I look forward to going through some of it. I have always been into the outdoors but really got into hunting when i moved to TX (from IL) for college. It was all downhill from there and now i am hooked. I am starting to get excited as my favorite time of year gets here....opening day of dove (followed by quail, deer, etc...) and football season! I do most of my hunting in TX but do venture up to Wisconsin for the short deer season up there. As I get older (I'm 25) i hope to be able to expand that list to include other states/countries.

My first gun was a Winchester 101 from my grandfather. The collection has expanded from there to include several shotguns and rifles. I'm currently looking at purchasing another handgun and am having a great time researching and reading other people's experiences with a variety of handguns.

Anyway, I look forward to reading what y'all have written/will write on these forums.

Have a great night!

Greetings.

Sorry about not introducing myself earlier before making replies to posts …. I browsed on this and several other sites, and I find this to be one of the best; Thanks, Oleg. Contributing members continue to help many, including me, to help out with the cost of the learning curve, truly an invaluable resource. I’ll hope to add to the ‘conversation’, where possible. Thanks, again, and in advance :)
